In this thread we share childhood fears, compare boogeymen and things from movies and other stuff that hid in our cupboard or under our beds! daumen3.gif

I was terrified of the scissorman/the tailor from Struwwelpeter, who cuts of the fingers of thumb-sucking children when I was a kid. He arrives instantly without a warning and never says a word, disappearing just as quickly when his horrible deed is done. Just look at that illustration and those spindly limbs! So we get disproportionate retribution, uncanny valley and jump scares to form one "neat" child-scaring package.

I used to fear skeletons and every night i'd see skulls floating before i fall asleep. I could see them even when my eyes were closed or facing my pilow.

Some times they'd talk to me and even stare at me.

I still have cinophobia, fear of dogs, i'm trying to get over it yet but i still get away from them on the streets  When i was younger I gave up on dating dog owners or visiting friends who owned dogs as well.

Skeletons, dead bodies. My dad let me watch a lot of R-rated movies when I was very, very little and that didn't turn out too well. I wouldn't say it's irrational to fear finding a dead body, but I swear if I ever stumble across one in the woods. Eeeeeeeeeeee. That's like, half my nightmares right there. I also used to be really afraid of tornadoes after watching "Twister." Are you noticing a trend? I still have a lot of dreams with tornadoes in them, too. Sometimes there are tornadoes and skeletons. Good times.

hmmm... my father was abusive. So I grew up with a fear for African Americans; yet all the caucasian people I tried to friend (unless they walked the red road) were racist towards me lol

needless to say I got in a lot of fights and was scared most the time.

I used to be scared of dogs a very long time ago!  If I heard barking I would instantly freeze, I would burst into tears if one came up to me hahaha.  It wasn't until I started being around my uncle's first dog more that things changed.

I was petrified of going close to the sea or water and of flying. It might not be normal childhood fears but it had a big impact on me. I had terrible nightmares, always, and the airplane/flying fear was not that strong, but the water... I dreamt often enough of drowning, coming too close to the water, of weird fish species I don't know. I dreamt several times, when I was at the east/north sea in Germany at the sea, that my parents left me in the car and they parked at these piers. It happened that the car slowly started rolling, fell into the water and sank down with me. I had these dreams from my 4-9th year and the things I was most scared of always were my dreams. They still are, actually.

There was also this game "Hugo 2" for PS1 and I played it with my older sisters (I was a born gamer lol) and this game still gives me the creeps today.

These days I can deal with my nightmares, but I don't have normal nightmares. They often come in "chains" and I have them for 3-8 days in a row. Yet they are really inspiring and creative though they mostly are scary as hell. I'm still stunned by how creative my mind is and shows it in my dreams. Worst case is when I don't want to sleep because I know I am in a current nightmare "chain"...

When I was little, I was scared of spider limbs. No no, not spiders, they didn't scare me as long as they stayed still. But whenever they move, their limbs go so rapidly, the spiders move so quickly it scared me a lot for some reason.

Oh wait I'm still scared of that.

Vampires.

At night, I would be trying to fall asleep until I suddenly felt a feeling of having a bare, exposed, vulnerable neck, not liking it and pulling the sheets up to my chin.

The invisible prescence that could not be seen, but is always lurking outside my den of bedcovers to pounce when I try to get a glass of water from the sink at midnight. I'm still a child, so they still bother me.

This.

This.

This is the scariest thing ever for everyone that grew up in the '90s like me.

LOL. My sister is scared of that too!

I was always scared of burglars. And still am, actually.

So is mine. I think clowns are terryfying because of the clothes, the weird makeup and the fact that in a lot of movies they are evil.

They are usually adults acting like kids and this is weird and unsettling. Also they always laugh, they are always happy with that face paint, and totally give psycho vibes all the time.

@Dalph™

Yeah, they are really disturbing. I can see why a lot of people are scared of them. :|

I had a nightmare once where my family all turned into Martian-looking monsters. It was actually extremely scary cus at one point, my alien brother hid under my bed and when I looked under it, he jumpscared me.

The next day I tried to stay away from them, hoping they wouldn't turn into Martians...

Dogs were my biggest fear as a kid, I'm over it now but I had it for quite some time. I'm still a little antsy around unfamiliar dogs though. I was sort of raised to worry over stuff as a kid so a lot of other little things scared me to; fortunately got over some of that though.

I am and always have been terrified of bugs. All bugs except for a select few. I can stand flies now, but most others, no way. Centipedes especially. Most of my fears haven't left me, and it seems I've almost developed more.

Satan.

Let's just say that my childhood daycare was pretty friggin' hardcore and vivid when describing him. Stuff like he'd kidnap me through my dreams and torture me for eternity with molten hot flesh. Not exactly fun stuff to hear when you're 7 :headshake:

Also, I'm not really sure if this can be called a childhood fear since I'm still pretty terrified of them, but Aliens! My dad and me watched waaaaay to much documentaries on them and most of them involved Aliens abducting and/or torturing humans, other docs talked about how they would "end this world" or enslave humanity in 2012. Freaky stuff, man. Heck, even Stephen Hawking is scared of Aliens for similar reasons (as far as I know). It didn't help that I had a very vivid dream of me and my sister getting abducted by these Aliens [who also killed my cat in the dream], it was so realistic that I actually asked my sister if that actually happened. Or the fact that I swear I saw a UFO over my house clear as day once.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
