To make visual resources, especially sprites, we all need to have a color palette and some are new or doesn't really have any idea about the color theory just like me. I don't know if this is the right forum to post this but please move the thread to the right location if you know that it shouldn't be here. Anyways, simply post your color palettes and everybody will be happy  BD

I, honestly, don't have any color palette... ;_;

Here's a WIP palette that I'm working on. It could definitely use some work, but this is what I've got so far :)

Here's the palette I created this weekend for a tileset I'm working on.  It's not final by any means.

Not mine but if you're looking for a simple pre-defined palette, this should work.

This is VX/VXA default palette. Even though it's pretty monochromatic and the color ramps aren't connected at all, if you've only started out recently, it's perfectly alright to use as it can give you an idea on how to go about adjusting saturation and luminosity for effective contrast.

And well, here's my own in-development palette for future reference.

Okay, I have a stupid question. What's with the 'linked colors' color organization? I've seen many people use it, and most of the people on this thread us it, the way of organizing colors in those odd little trees. The only place I've ever seen that is in pixel-art communities. Is there an advantage to making palettes like that? Is there some place I can learn how to make my own palettes like that, if it is indeed better? I've always just used plain old linear palettes.

It's merely for color blending or simply to organize which color is contrast to another or which color is best mixed with another, I guess.

The main point of the color tree is first, to reduce the amount of colors to a minimum, thus allowing pixel artists a lot more control over their colors, as well as a lot of time. Also, the more tightly color ramps cross/link to one another, the more incorporated they are, and the easier it is to achieve color harmony. Unfortunately, I don't know of any good tutorials on this matter. There are some of course, but I can't really verify their quality. I just kinda developed it by myself over time.

@cosmickitty: Seems you're utilizing a lot of gray neutralizers, which is awesome. Those are super handy. You know what you're doing just fine. Although for me I don't really wanna use them. Just personal preference.

This tutorial talks about palettes and why you should used linked colors.  It also talks about how to select colors.  I highly recomend his other tutorials, as well.

While I know it's one of the most prominent tutorials on pixel art on the Internet, personally I wouldn't recommend referring to any of his other tutorials, in which he demonstrates practices that to me are bad practices and only applicable for his own personal uses.

That tutorial regarding pixel art palette is good enough though I think.

Yeppers, mines for a fairy tale esque game and has an intentionally soft palette

The thing with any art form is that you have to expiriment with multiple styles and methods before you find your own.  I think it goes without saying that you should never rely on one tutorial or teacher, and you should never stop practicing and experimenting.  But nearly everyone starts with imitating other styles until they gain enough confidence and skill to strike out on their own.

Sure, the things he teaches aren't always useful down the line to any given individual, but insight into how other talented artists produce art is never a waste of time.

Oh gracious! Not everyone uses a palette for (more, if you will) art purposes.

Some of us ground dwellers just want an easy way to do a recolor now and then, right? lol

I have seen plenty of people shoot down a simple sprite recolor as not being "RTP compatible" because someone didn't choose a set of five shades of green already in the RTP.

/me shrugs

So a palette might be to create something new, or maybe just to document something which already exists.

But everything will be limited and have its particular uses.

I'm not an artist, just a programmer, so i just realised a palette with some prcedural loops with RGB system and that's what out. Far from perfection, but let you easily pick a good amount ou colors.

You can use it by copy it into the "Generator" folder inside the RPG Maker MV install folder. Always keep a save of the original files and use this picture with the names :

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
