This franchise has been on my mind a lot lately, even while playing the new Fire Emblems. I guess what happened to them was when Camelot went to Nintendo, Sega kept the rights, and turned it into... Whatever the hell they want us to believe it is now.
Really, what I want to do, is try to make a similar game, where during combat, you actually freely move your character within a certain area on a grid, and then you can go into a menu for a simple attack with your equipped weapon, or select from a small list of spells, which also have varying levels of strength. Then, it goes to a separate screen, like Fire Emblem, except with a view from behind the character instead, and plays out the attack. When attacking multiple enemies with a spell, the enemy side scrolls on to each different enemy to show the damage they took. When not in combat, you can freely roam the world as you would any traditional RPG, go into towns to buy weapons, items, revive your allies, or promote your units.
I also want to add my own little twists to the system, though I'm not sure how I'd do that yet. It may still be a ways off before anyone even considers to make the plugins for this, and I'm poor with programming, not because I don't understand, but because I don't have the patience. However, if this were an option, I'd devote soooo much time and effort to making a full game out of it.
