REVISED QUESTION: Can you select an individual sprite off a tile sheet using the "Show Picture" command in MV without using a script and/or plugin?

If not, is there a light weight solution to this problem?

ORIGINAL POST: I am working on this idea to build a common event system that displays the proper character bust/image with switches that are set when the character is first created. I am not using any plugins.

The idea is to build the system with only eventing.

The standard format is: (at least how I use it)

- Show Picture
- Dialog Box
- Erase Picture "as I understand it"
(if this is incorrect, please let me know)

The revised format:

- Call Common Event
- Dialog Box
- Erase Picture

Is there a way to select an area of an image, similar to how MV uses a tile sheet with the show picture command?

I was hoping to avoid having to creating 68 individual images and limit it to the original 8 faceset tile sheets I have already created.

I supplied two images below. The first shows the complete tile sheet when called by "Show Picture" and the second shows how the "Show Picture" common event works. Depending on what gender and hair color are set when the character is made will show the proper image. I am not worried about placement yet. More concerned to see if I can select an area on a tile sheet and only display that using this setup.

Thanks in advance!

In the Editor you cant cut a Picture into Pieces. So you would need 8 Pictures for each Faceset Face one.

If i get you correctly you have different Busts for the main Hero depending on which one the Player choose at the start of Game?
Than yes a Common Event is a possible Solution.

1. At Game start depending on which Immage the Player chooses you will set a Variable to a Number. (Maybe Var1 = 2, Char2 the Magician).
2. Create a common Event that never runs and only can be called by Events.
Make Conditional Branches for every possible Char Immage. If Var1 = 1 than show pictureX id1 ,If Var1 = 2 than show picture Y id1, If Var1 = 3 and so on.

3. You are talking to NPC, now your Hero wants to say something, so you do:
- Call Common Event
- Show Textbox
- Erase Picture id1

I hope this Helps, else please explain.

If you want to include different Emotion Facesets for each possible immage the player could choose , than we would need to drasticaly adjust the above code, but lets start easy?

Yeah, I have that exact basic setup now. It's going to give me the push to make actually busts instead of using facesets. Working with a friend who is a 3d modeler. We're going to make each character as a 3d model, then screen shot them in the 4 basic emotions (i.e. normal, happy, sad, mad).

I'm not an artist, so I take what I can get :)

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
