Well, maybe not that simple haha

I'm using ZE - Key Mapper & Hime Common Events to Key Presses plugins to map common events to key presses. For instance, hitting 'w' on the keyboard calls a common event that A. Checks my water variable and B. Uses Water (if any is left). That part is simple.

Now, say I have three tiles of fire that I want to extinguish so the player can get by. I'm having trouble figuring out how to connect the common event, the fire event, and the fact that *the player is standing in the tile next to the fire*. The latter is what's confusing me.

I believe I may be able to use regions, but there's no conditional affected by them.

This set up could be used for a number of puzzles, keys that open doors, for instance, or other Zelda-type puzzles.

Any help or ideas to streamline this would be appreciated! : )

Hey there nilson - I'll take a spin at this and try to re-create this puzzle later tonight - I'm gonna be pretty busy today, and I wish I could dive into the puzzle now XD

I'm not using ZE - Key Mapper or Hime Common Events, so i'll make a new project to test it out.
I'll get back to you! Take care!

Alright, I played around with it a little and created a Common Event.

I didn't get a chance to download the plugins becuase it detected it as malware for some reason o_O

Nevertheless, this should still work. Let me know if you have any issues, we can always Skype if you think it would help =]

Here is a link to the photos if they are too small to read =]

thanks so much, man : )

I built what you showed, but I'm not sure I understand the 'Map ID' variable, what I'm supposed to do with it, where I'm supposed to put it.

Sorry for the late response.
So, all you have to do is create a variable - call it Map ID.
At the start of your event, use the Control Variable command to set our new variable to the players current map.

Then, create a conditional branch that asks if the variable Map ID is equal to X (where X is the map id with the fire put out puzzle).
Since you have multiple maps, simply add an Else Branch to the Conditional that asks if its equal to Y (where Y is another map id with the puzzle).

If you have 5 maps total, the event should look like this:

Remember to change all of your locations for each map!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
