Simple Quick Time Event for Friday the 13th fan-game?

I don't really explain things very well at times, so I'll make this as simple as I can.

All I'm looking for is a way to construct a simple, one-key-press QTE. It would be in a situation similar to this: A counselor is walking down a path/hallway/etc... when Jason shows up by surprise. The standard Slash Physical animation plays, and the counselor gets hit unless they press a specific key (preferably Enter) to dodge the attack.

I found this video about QTEs, but he's using MV instead of Ace, and the attack doesn't come from a projectile.

Why not use simple events for this? First, when you have to press the button when switch JASON is on. Second, parallel, where after a few seconds (when JASON is ON) gaves you hit/game over.

I tried, but am having issues with getting it to work. I first tried this:

Switch is flipped that causes Jason to show up. Then the animation plays and a second switch (we'll just call this second switch 'Attack') is activated, which activates a PP event that only turns on when 'Attack' is on. In this PP event is a conditional branch for whether a specific button is being pressed. If it is, the screen flashes blue. If not, it flashes red (obviously that's not what the end result will be, but just having it flash blue or red let's me know if I'm on the right track or not). Problem is it always flashes red even if I'm holding the button down the entire time.

I'm currently scratching my head on how to design plains. What do I even put in plains? Some trees (but not too many or it turns into a forest)? Grass? A few bushes? That's a bit dull.
I'm looking for tutorials but Google didn't seem to find much (or maybe I have the wrong keywords). I don't know how to map plains and I don't know how to learn.
