I have been putting a lot of work into my recent RPG game, but I have just encountered a problem. I have been trying for days to figure it out, but I couldn't so I'm going to post it here.

I have made custom classes for each of my characters, including skills. I selected "Seal Skill Type: Special" (After trying everything else.) And yet, none of the skills will appear, even though it says post-battle that the actor got the skill. I can't seem to figure it out, so any help is appreciated.

The Seal Skill blocks the special menu with the labeled special skills from coming up. Take off the seal and they should come back up.

You need to "ADD skill type", not "seal skill type" - the first allows the actor/class to use skills of that type, the other blocks the use (normally for states to temporarily block, not permanently block in features)

Whenever I "Add skill type" it makes the actor learn skills that I didn't put in the class.

Then they were added somewhere else.

To use a skill, you need both the skill added AND the skill type added. That is exactly to allow for mixes and filtering.

Adding a skill type does NOT add any skills, it only enables all skills of that type that had been added somewhere (could be by class, by actor, by equipment worn or whatever.

If you do not want the actor to have those skills, then find where they're added and remove them there. But you cannot use a skill without having access to the skill type

Sounds like you added skills via the add skill feature in the Actor section.

Edit: Lol Andar got his post in like 1 second before I could.

Okay, I got it so it shows "Special" and doesn't add random Skills. But now it doesn't add skills even though it says "____ Skill was learned"

Please show us screenshots of one of the actors and its class with one of the skills that have the problem. Somehow you're mixing something up, and we need to see what you've done to solve it.

Please show us screenshots of your skill, your class and/or actor (where you have them set to use the skill), and a screenshot from in-game where you look at the menu or wherever you look after getting that message, where it's not showing up and you expect it to be.

You need lv 8 for Bodyslam, what lv is your char(it starts out at lv 3, which means you need to gain 5 more levels in game somehow).

Also make sure that skill is set to the special type.

That skill is Double Attack. You don't even have it listed on the actor or the class.

Is this the skill you're having the issue with? You actually need to show us THE skill, not just ANY skill.

When you say "---- Skill was learned" do you actually mean it puts a skill name in there, or that there is no skill name?

PLEASE provide ALL the information we need - I'm not sure if you're leaving things out and showing us screenshots of other skills because you don't want us to know what you're calling your skill or how you're setting it up, but you're really just adding to the confusion.

Show us THE skill that's causing the problem, THE actor who gets the skill and THE class they belong to. Not just any old ones in your database.

The problem is the skill setting.

Skill Type = NONE can NEVER be added, it is completely unusable by all actors.

NONE only works for enemies, not for actors (guard and attack only function as none because they have overrides programmed into the battlescreen).

A skill NEEDS a skill type (and that skill type needs to be added to the actor) before an actor can use the skill.

Also, ALWAYS NAME your classes - otherwise you don't know if the class 11 selected is really the one on the screenshot...

If you don't want them displayed ingame, only delete the names before publication but not during development

Actually, skill type = NONE means it can be used by ANYBODY. As long as they get it somehow (listed under the skills to be learned at level X, or via a Learn Skill command).

It's only when you set skill type to something other than "none" that you have to add the skill type to the class/actor.

Wow really, I didn't know you could do that, where would the skill end up then, in the battle command menu(are you sure about that, because why would people need a battle menu manager script then, to do that)?

And how should the player trigger the skill in default without a skill group and without script commands?
It won't even be visible in the battlescreen as a name of a skill, because the battlescreen only has attack, guard and then the skill type groups unless you use a command manager as well...

Andar is correct. They only appear if they're in the "Special" skill type. Also Mods can close this thread now, the issue has (obviously) been resolved.

mmm ... a little confusing. The MV help file elaborates a little bit more than the Ace help file, and I read it to mean if you use Magic or Special, only those who had that added to their class can use the skill, whereas None meant you didn't need to add it to the class. Sorry.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
