I was surprised by it. I wanted Nintendo or NIS to purchase them, but whatever. I don't care what Sega does with Persona, I care about what they do to Shin Megami Tensei. If they mess with Shin Megami Tensei in anyway, I'm gonna lose it.

SEGA buying Atlus was that outcome I was actually rooting for. So HURRAY!

Seriously, yeah Sega has had a few issues with localization lately, but overall their a very competent set of developers and will know how to handle their new properties.

And the balance of leverage between Sega and Atlus should actually prove for some much better opportunities since Sega could actually sit back and listen to Atlus from time to time as well as being their new owners. Leverage is a pretty neat thing actually, I think it's probably the single most important detail in the whole issue.

And seriously I heard so much from so many different fanboys rooting for it to go to a first party, Nintendo in particular (goes back to a leverage issue actually)... and that would have just ruined so many things it's not even funny.

I would had prefered if they didn't changed Atlus name. A name is an identification. Now Sega Dream Corporation is pretty obscure compared to what Atlus meant at least for me. But well, if you know about the name change, you can locate your games, specially franchises as all ShinMegaten and its spinoffs (Persona, Devil Saga, etc).

Dream Corporation is cheesy... I loved Atlus' name...

As for SEGA, I've seen nice RPGs from them as publishers, I think. I don't know very much what would happen, neither with Nintendo nor NIS, so let's see what happens. At least it isn't Microsoft!

They didn't change the name. Atlus is a subsidiary of Sega Dream Corporation, just like they were previously a subsidiary of the Index Corporation

I believe Sega-SAMMY(a financial company) brought Atlus out, not Sega themselves.

But this is whatever to me, as long as Atlus keeps pumping out good RPGs like Radiant Historia, SMT and Etrian Odyssey then I'm cool.

The name Atlus means a lot to me so yeah , it's great to know that they will keep it ^u^ ,

If they mess with Shin Megami Tensei in anyway, I'm gonna lose it.
Same here , I'm especially concerned about them changing the serie's difficulty . ( hoping to see kaneko's name on the next SMT )

At least it isn't Microsoft!
xD man that would be soooo wrong , the games would be in english but no thank you !

Sega could actually sit back and listen to Atlus from time to time as well as being their new owners
That would be great , we need more games like atlus's

RMMV
Give them Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 to re-release them for PS3 like Sega promised they were going to do (until VC2 didn't sell well and they cancelled VC3's localization and any plans for PS3 re-releases).

Also maybe now we'll see Persona 5 which I have been patiently been waiting for.

Well, Sega didn't localize too many good RPGs in the first place, so this was an interesting surprise to me.

I don't think that Atlus will change to much from this though, we'll still get our Persona, SMT, Etrian odyssey, and other cool JRPGs on the systems they belong on, Sega may still be leaning on Nintedno's side, but that never meant they will never do a game for Sony ever again.

This would be hilarious if this happened twenty years ago, I wounder what some of Atlus's early games would look like on a Sega console.

They've made some remarks about continuing to strengthen the Atlus brand, so I'm pretty sure they'll keep up what they're doing. Atlus will definitely benefit from SEGA's distribution network, EU certainly needs it that I know of. I'm hopeful that SEGA can benefit from Atlus' localization and international marketing networks too.

You know, a lot of people is concerned about Atlus (like myself). It would be a bad move if SEGA tries to do bad **** with them. If they do the opposite, if they help Atlus, their fans people will like more SEGA, Sonic will get more love than Mario, and then PROFIT.

I, for example, have this image of Index Corporation as a parasite for Atlus. "Index Corporation on the other hand lived thanks to Atlus. Atlus was making money, while Index was throwing it all through the window." So if SEGA benefits Atlus and both of them grow up and be good together, I will be happy for Atlus.

So SEGA, if you do harm to Atlus I'll never forgive you (?),

I doubt Sega would do harm to Atlus. This is actually a good move for Sega to bring them in more money. Now they have something else that will sell other than Sonic, Yakuza and the Hatsune Miku games. and knowing how big Persona and SMT are as well as the other spin off titles, Sega will do good and not be so close to the brink of despair like Crapcom.

Out of any other company, I personally found Sega would be a better fit for acquiring Atlus. Nintendo never struck me as a company that's gone out of its way to acquire companies for their franchises. While SMT is a strong franchise right now, it's not exactly the type of material Nintendo creates.

Sega, on the other hand, has been very collective. They were behind franchises like Phantasy Star, Sakura Taisen, Shining Force, and Sands of Destruction which are mostly long-running franchises that hold their Japanese influences on their sleeves much like most of Atlus' popular titles.

Culturally, I believe the two companies just get on better. Apart from what appears to be a common culture/interest in Japanese RPGs, Sega could also benefit from acquiring Atlus' localization teams, if that's how the deal works.

I doubt it Shin. Nintendo and Sega defined/ created the console war in the first place, sure they team up to make games every now and again, but a console? Naahhh.

partnering in making games gives them both an income generator (especially when it's playable in both of their consoles)... but making a console that will compete with both of their products might or might not... and most probably it won't...

Honestly, I don't think they will change them much. Sega bets big when it publishes titles. Atlus, though a very big name in the rpg community and my favorite, is more of a middle cost gambler. Atlus is a smart buy for Sega, helps their bottom line. I don't see them really changing anything because Atlus is profitable. Atlus' old parent company just made a lot of bad acquisitions and ended up in the gutter. Think, Game Crazy and Hollywood Video Entertainment. Game Crazy being profitable didn't save Hollywood Video Entertainment from going bankrupt :/ anywho, things are up in the air about how it'll be handled. Sega could gut them and use their IPs....or they could pull an XSEED and just have a stake in them while they do the independent publisher thing(which would be great, that way they could keep doing what they're doing AND have access to Sega's IPs.) Then again there is the possibility that Sega Dream Corporation MIGHT run as it's own company, that way Atlus would still be Atlus. Only time will tell though. Gotta keep our fingers crossed.
