This one shouldn't take long. I'm looking more for an explanation as opposed to a solution.

So, I do some parallaxing. I was introduced to this skill back in VX which made use of OriginalWij's "fixed" parallax script. So, naturally, moving into ace I just import this RGSS2 script into the new RGSS3 system. Why? Because it works! ...sort of.

Here's a quick demo.

Basically, everything works fine with the bare-bones 17*13 maps; the map is static and all the overlays are functioning. However, once I get to larger maps it's as if the parallax is treated in an entirely different way. Now, just to clarify, I am not looking for script support. Seeing as this script is obviously obsolete at this stage, the appropriate updates shouldn't be hard for me to find.

I'm just curious if there are any fundamental, in-engine differences between parallaxing in VX and ACE.

Thanks for your time!

It's actually so much easier in VX Ace. Thanks to Yami's Overlay Mapping, the time it takes to parallax map is decreased, you won't need any show picture events! It's all done via scripting and a simple variable!

The one thing about Yami's that I didn't like was that you couldn't set what z-coordinate you wanted the overlays to be and you were stuck with a max of 4 layers.  ModernAlgebra's Fix Picture to Map allows you to have any many layers as you wish, lets you choose the z-coordinate (either that are set up or the direct z-coordinate) with a single variable that works on several images and is pretty easy to use, despite needing to actually set up everything, including parallel events in each map.

Anyway, choose whichever one you feel is right for you, but as Celianna said, don't expect a VX script to work right out of the box in Ace since RGSS2 and RGSS3 are different in various ways.

Joking aside though, I'm still thankful, I guess it saves me the time. As far as "expecting it to work" well, I didn't. But it kinda did work to an extent which through me off. Admittedly, back in the day I didn't parallax many maps out of the default 17*13 frame so I was pretty comfortable with this script's outdated functionality until recently. But I was just curious if the vanilla engine is treating parallaxing differently. I don't know, I guess I'm just "that guy" with the urge to ask silly questions.

Thanks again guys, hope this didn't deter people from more serious matters!

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
