wrong, RM Unite is out and an absolute desaster.
It was such an desaster in the Unity store that the steam release was cancelled.

Super nitpicky of me, but it's 'disaster'.

Sorry @Andar... my English went off the rails. By "out", I meant "out of the game", in the sense of an abandonment. But yes, it's a disaster, and their roadmap wish-list isn't reassuring.

I agree. I'd also like to add that I really want a real 3D RPG Maker and this could have been it if it wasn't such a disaster and had 3D RTP/art for humanoid and non-humanoid characters/actors/enemies. The humanoid ones could used Unity things/tools and Maximo to give them many animations and the non-humanoid ones should come with standard animations like walk, run, idle, cast a spell, get hurt, be defeated, etc.

I would absolutely LOVE a great 3D RPG Maker to create turn-based RPG games like Final Fantasy X, hybrid RPG games like Final Fantady VII Remake, and even action RPG games (ARPG) like Kingdom Hearts. I also use Unity for a while now and can work well with it.

Curiously, the Steam listing is back up and has been re-listed, so it displays in searches and such again:



You can see that they had indeed de-listed it, and then re-listed it after a month through the SteamDB site: https://steamdb.info/app/1650950/history/

And also set the '2023' release date to 'To Be Announced', which probably means a release on Steam this year is off the table. : P

But it does seem to point to them intending to release on Steam after all which is interesting given the nature of the tool and its dependence on the Unity editor stuff. I'll be curious to see how it all goes down.

It is not a wonder this failed. They announced it straight after MZ came out. And also... Many of us work with RPG maker because they can't work with unity. To me, the announcement of Unite felt like buying the newest version would be just a waste, because before I boot it up, a new version will be announced.

I think it could have worked anyway, MZ came out long enough ago + it can be seen as just an upgrade compared to MV. So Unite was supposed to be the next step ahead. Unfortunately, they made a lot of wrong choices and it seems that the dev team might not be strong enough for their plan.

Well... Yeah it could have, but it didn't. And well, you might say MZ came out long ago, but that wasn't the case when Unite was announced. There was 5 years between the release of MV and the announcement of MZ... There was just a few weeks between the release of MZ and the announcement of Unite.

They literally just made their audience buy a $90 engine and straight after announce that it will not be the most relevant one for long. It kinda felt as if all money spend on MZ was wasted and all afford to learn the engine would have been irrelevant soon enough.

That was a terrible, horrible business move, which really wasn't a nice gesture towards their audience. Timing is everything in cases like this.

I've had this doubt for some time. I'm thinking about purchasing Unite in the future, and I have all the other RPG Makers on Steam.

Would the use of these resources be allowed in Unity itself as well? Sprites, Tiles, Audio and etc.

Komodo doesn’t publish Unite so we don’t support it, but we do have this bloated mega thread where people talk about it since it’s still somewhat relevant to the forum.
