Greetings, I have a request for anyone who is deliciously awesome enough to help me out with it!

I have searched the internets far and wide for a good script that makes me able to play videos into battles when using a certain skill.

The video should be triggered when the player clicks the skill, and should play before the initial attack-animation! So it goes like:

Player clicks on attack --> Video plays --> Attack happens.

I have only ever encountered 1 other script for this on the internet, and it quite honestly doesn't at all work for me. So, I decided to ask here! This script would be extremely useful for the project I and some others are currently making, as we are interested in making epic and intense ultimate-skills displaying a video of the main character doing something before the skill is finished! This should not only apply to the player-characters, but  to enemy ones as well.

The video format should preferibly be OGV or something similiar that is small in filesize (if it is possible, of course c:), and absolutley not AVI as it is a disgusting filesize-hogging monster of a fileformat that I want to strangle to death. What I can also can add is that I use the "MOG - Advanced Battle Hud (v2.2)" system, but I am not sure it matters that much since the MOG-battle system seems quite compatible with all other scripts, and only to really affect the visuals.

Anyway; since I am not much into Ruby-scriptingt, I have no idea how hard it is to make this kind of script, but if it infact is something for only the most hardcore of scripters, please let me know and I can try to strike up some kind of deal.

Also, if you need any more details on how it should work I am happy to write it all up!

Thanks alot, have a good one!

I have some movieclips playing in my game that will trigger when It's selected inside battle.

The script I use is Victor Sant's Animated Battle.

You can  download the script, and read the manual here: and scroll down to the 'movie' section where it will be explained. (The manual also comes with some movie samples).

Please notice that the movies needs to be in a .ogv format though.

I'm also pretty sure that you can link a common event with the skill in question and have it trigger a movie event that way (I havn't tried it out but I'm pretty sure it should work).

Edit: Just tried setting this up with a common event and it works fine.

All you have to do is to make a common event with the event command: play movie.

(Make sure that your movieclip is located inside the Movie folder in your project.)

Then you link your skill with that common event in question. The result will be that the movie will be shown before the attack is excecuted, and If I remember correctly that's what you wanted?

We can unfortunetaly not afford to change our battle-system to another one for this, so changing to that script I cannot do!

I tested linking a Common Event to the skill by having the skill call the Common Event when used, but it appear that the video instead doesn't play in the battle but instead after the battle has been finished! :[   Not sure if I just did something wrong, or if it just doesn't work.

Ah, I see. I'm not really sure if it will affect your currect battle system though, since if you only use the command for the movie to play and add the notetags on your actor, it really shouldn't affect anything else. I'm not 100% sure about that though.

Hmm, ye that's really weird because it worked absolutely fine when I tried it out.

I'll post some screenies on how I set it up:

When I set it up like this, the movie starts playing immidietly after you have used the skill, and when It's done the animation and damage from the spell will excecute, so I found it really weird if it doesn't work for you. Maybe script related or something? Try setting it up in a new project and see if you can get it to work there.

I set it up like you did in both my main project and in a brand new test-project and I discovered that the movie plays after the skill has been executed (Click Skill ---> Animation and Damage occur ---> Movie plays) which still isn't correct!

It is quite the mystery why it works for you but doesn't appear to work for me. There must be some kind of reason behind it!

I took screenshots here of the setup I made in the new project:

Hmm ye that's really a mystery..!

I havn't tried playing a movie from a common event before, but like I said it worked without any issues. The order for me is:

(Click skill - Movie plays - animation and damage.)

I'm really confused why It's working for me, and end up being the other way around for you. You have set it up just like me as well, so It's really confusing!

I'm gonna see if It will work the same for me in a new project as well, otherwise I have no idea :(

Have you seen another topic that has the same issue (the movie plays after skill excecution)? Maybe you could find an answer there.

I havn't really done any changes to the game scripts, more than adding some fixes for text options and enemy behaviour along with the custom scripts of course, so I find this very weird Oo

Edit: When I tried it in a new project the order is changed for some reason, now I'm experiencing the same thing that you are. So I guess It most be one of my scripts that's causing the movie to play first or something.

I'll look it up and try removing all my scripts and see which one that's causing the effect, I'll get back to you later :)

Hopefully it would be a script that you could use, and doesn't change anything in your game (Battle system etc).

I'm pretty sure that Victors script wont change your battle system if you are not using the setup for it though, but the question would be if It's compatible with the other battle script.

Aah okay, thanks a lot mate, that is much appreciated! :D

If it happens to be the Victor-one, I guess I'll have to try it out and see if it conflicts with the current battle system script or not. But yeah, thanks!

Sadly, it seems like It's the Animated Battles script that's causing the effect. I'm pretty sure that you can just set up the basic frames and rows for your sprites in the game, and then just put nil on all the poses and it shouldn't affect your other battle system.

I guess It's some kind of script code in the script that's causing the change in behaviour of the movie scene.

If you can't download the script for some reason, just to try it out (And see if it won't affect your other battle system after removing all the poses), I can send you the script in a PM.

I really hope it works out for you, and that you can use the script without any interference! Otherwise that's all I got really, but it should be pretty easy for a scripter to make a small script for you that will enable the movie to play before the skill is excecuted.

Try puting up a script request in the script forum and see if someone can help you there, if the Victor script is giving you a hard time :)

Also, you will need to download the Basic Module from Victors site as well, since It's required for his scripts to work.

I hope the animated battles script doesn't affect anyhting as long as you are not seting up any custom sprites!

Sadly it doesn't seem compatible with my current battlesystem script. Victor's Animated Battle seems to be way too different and huge for it not to conflict with the one I am currently using. : /

I guess I'm going to have to get my hands on a script through a commission or something similiar in order to get what I am looking for!

Either way, a massive amount of thanks for helping me out with this, it was really nice of you! :)

... say, you wouldn't happen to know any good script-writers that take commissions? (with the exception of Victor Sant, as I have already tried asking him!)

That's sad to hear, I was hoping that it would work out :(

I'm really sorry for my lack of awareness as well (Just realized this was posted under script requests, and here I go saying 'try to put a script request in the script forum.. doh!).

Well sadly I didn't really help you out that much, wish I could though (I'm not really experienced with scripting as it is, I have just learned to work with some of the scripts in my project).

I'm not sure if there's anyone that's taking requests, but if you hang in there I'm pretty sure that someone will be able to help you sooner or later. I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't require that much of a script (or scriplet), in order to change this behaviour for the movie call (but hey what do I know).

I hope it works out for you though :)

Going to bump this before it disappears off into the dreaded realm of the second page.

EDIT: ALRIGHT, I got a fully functioning script from a really cool guy on the RPG Maker VX Ace forum, if anyone is interested they can check it out here:

This thread is ready to be locked, as it is totally solved!

SO HAPPY.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
