Hello there. I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I couldn't find anything else. Basically, I downloaded the free version of RPG Maker MV. I tried creating something, and then I tested. The problem is that, it showed a "file missing" Chrome error. So, I noticed I accidentally moved my project, and I put it back in the place it originally was (I'm 100% sure it is). But then, I tested, and a black screen shows. No sounds. No menu. Nothing else. After some time, I opened the console, and it shows this errors at the end of the log:
Uncaught ReferenceError: CacheMap is not defined
at rpg_managers.js:793
Uncaught TypeError: PluginManager.setup is not a function
at main.js:5

What I tried to do:
  • Creating a brand new project without touching anything, and then tested.
  • Opening the file with Mozilla Firefox instead of Chrome.
  • Disabling every plugin.
  • Deploying game and play it from its file.
  • Re-installing.
  • Rebooting system.
  • Using a better Graphic Card (6GB ram)
  • Playtesting a battle.
  • Moving to another computer (Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit, this time)
What I can assure is:
  • Directory contains no spaces nor illegal characters.

Note: is it possible that my computer, for any reason, deletes some files during setup? What I'd like to try is download RPG Maker MV but with an archive, not an installer, just to see if there are any missing files. (of course, the trial version. It'd not be legal if I downloaded the full version for free)

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x86 bit and Google Chrome, last version.

Either you have made some bad edits to the core engine or your filepaths contain illegal characters, for example spaces. Also, don't lsunch the game from Chrome, it doesn't work well due to Chromium's lack of support for local drive.

I checked the directory name, and it has no spaces nor strange characters. I also tried launching it with Mozilla, but as always, black screen. For the core directory, I'm not sure if there are any missing/damaged files. This is why I'd like to download MV with an archive and not with an installer.

Not just directory, full filepaths.

Can you please share the screenshot of Firefox's console log? If the error is corrupted files, then the error would look specific.

For some reason the scripts cannot recognise each other when they're loaded. I doubt there's any corruption to them, although if you want, you can send them to me via PM. They're MIT licensed, so there's no problem with that.
I reckon it doesn't work even when you try to playtest them from mv editor. does it?

Yeah, it doesn't work.

if you make a new project, does that work?
there are two possibilities here, one is damage to the project (then the new project works) or interference (including deleting files) from a different program in the background - then the new project will show the same problem.

I'm guessing that something messed up the project files during the move - especially if the editor was updated without updating the project, or if you accidentally deployed the game into the project directory (this changes the packages file that contains the paths).
can you give us your editor version and open the project's rpg_core.js file with any text editor to check the version number in the title line?
Those numbers should be identical

Do you remember if there is or was a www folder inside the project directory?
That folder should only exist in the deployed game, not in the project directoy - but if it was there then deleting it isn't enough to repair the problem, there is another step (that needs files from a new and working project)

@Andar I can confirm these files are not corrupt. The problem is somewhere in the loading process, but not in the files themselves.

No, I've never deployed the game in its folder. There never was a www folder, but I don't think that's the problem, as every project is black. Anyways, I can't find that line with the version in that file. My version is 1.6.1.

I have checked the scripts. They indeed do not contain the version, but I think that would be the perk of MV trial version in order to make a game recognizable that it's from MV's trial version (since the EULA forbids you to deploy games made in trial version), since their code 100% checks out with MV 1.6.1.

I wonder, can you play MV games made by other members of the community?
You can try both offline (found in Completed games or games in development) and online (for example Medieval cop on kongregate.com). That's really the only thing that comes to my mind, because as ridiculous as it sounds, it looks like the browsers are trying to launch your game while it hasn't been loaded properly yet.

I tried that game and yes, I'm able to play it.

I see. What about some downloadable games on this forum? Can you play them offline or is it the same black screen problem?

Interesting.

As ridiculous as it sounds, can you please take a screenshot of your project's index.html and package.json? If that doesn't show the answer, I'm out of options.

I said with a text editor. It's important to see if the script order is correct.

tfw, I found one of my skill ability in my game is not worth picking and had to plan to buff it. But my players seemed to use it without complaining. Now, idk if I should buff it or leave it as is.
