I'm creating a monster in my project that is intended to be much taller than the screen, and the way around it I found was to have the creature be part of the background of the battle as a parallax, and have the game shift it's way up the background to signify phase changes.

Essentially I want it to be exactly like the final fight in Final Fantasy 6

I've been using scripts so far for things like having side-view battles, so if there's a script that can accomplish this that'd be lovely, but it feels like something this simple should be doable without it, but my efforts with it alone so far have yielded nothing

If you want to do it as a battle background, it is not simple and it does need a script.

Can you instead just have a really, really large enemy sprite and at the appropriate time, have a troop event that moves the sprite down? If you have an animated battle system where your characters are moving around, or there's an icon over the enemy sprite, it might cause problems with that, as the movement/icon might be based on the lower part of the sprite.

I tried out your suggestion but sadly it makes working around the different phases difficult when the main monster is targetable. I think I'll try to look into a script that gives some control over when parallaxes can move, and allowing parallaxes in battle at all for that matter.

Thank you for the help though, it was a very inventive solution.

Then you should list what scripts you have already, because anything written for you would need to be compatible with other added scripts.

Oh sorry, I wasn't looking for a script initially, but decided to look for one when I found out it couldn't be done without it. But since it's been moved, I might as well ask here.

I just want to be able to use parallaxes during battle, and to be able to move them during battle when I want to, like in the gif in the first post. The scripts I'm currently using don't seem to affect the battleback, even the side-view battle script only affects the monsters and party, so nothing should get in the way.

looking around, this script is sounding like what I want by name alone: http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/18910-parallaxed-battlebacks/

But it's completely lost. Is it backed up anywhere?

edit: I found the script, but it sadly doesn't do what I want. I'm thinking of changing tactics and going for making a picture appear below the characters

I found a solution without scripts.

By having 3 Battlebacks, and 1 Picture, I can use the picture to mask the battlebacks changing while giving the illusion of the battleback shifting. It even gives the same effect as in the original gif where the character's "fade" away during the transition.

I'm glad I managed to figure it out.
sorry for spamming the thread, and sorry for wasting people's time.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
