Hello, I don't know which forums to post this but I will ty here since this is a general question I think.

Firstly, I want to buy rpgmaker on steam, but I would like to know when next it goes on sale or is expected to go on sale since I cant really afford the full price.

In addition to this, I know that a new engine gets released ever so often. i'm wondering if I should wait for the next engine after mv or spend my money on mv.

I highly doubt they will make another engine for RM. RMMV has a good compatibility with current technologies. It's compatible with mobile, HTML5 and uses Pixi engine, which is constantly upgraded. It's also programmed in javascript - a very popular programming language.

I don't think it will need to be replaced for at least 3~4 years, since it won't get obsolete for a while.

Most likely your next best chance will be the Steam summer sale. Not sure when that is, but you can likely find it with Google.

As Crabs said, if there is a next engine it likely won't be for a while. RM programs have been released every 4 years or so and MV has not even been out for two. So yes, it would be best to get it when you can.

'General Discussion' is for looking at aspects/themes of making games, not the software or other resources that one might use to make a game. So...

I bought VX Ace during the winter sale last year for $8. Best money I ever spent. Even if I never finish making my game, the amount of fun I've had with it far surpasses the game::money ratio. I've been told that MV is good in comparison to VXA if you're going to be making mobile games though.

MV is basically an improved version of Ace that was reprogrammed in a better language to get rid of several restrictions of Ace.
The change in programming languages means that if you're looking into the future, you'll be better off using MV, especially because Ace is now Legacy (no more updates).

No one knows exactly when the next sale is where, and you just missed one on Humble Bundle.
I suggest you use this once a week for checking:

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
