Meet our current project we're working on!

Sora - Follow the Voice is a classic jRPG horror, inspired by Corpse Party game from GrisGris. We are using RPG Maker MV and do it pretty much specific way, trying to combine old-school classic genre features and modern technics, gameplay and interfaces by making our own scripts and plugins for better opportunities. So it's pretty much another good old top view survival horror with anime schoolgirls, ghosts and drama, but this one also include perfect animation, pretty epic gameplay cutscenes, episodic system, choices, actions and answers that your story depends on! We're going into randomly generated Limbo, where we will find ourselfs captured and scared, and it's gonna be different each new replay! We're going into smart and free willed NPC companions, who not just follows you in your pockets, but also try to survive as you do and do their stuff like some sort of another players. This is a really new look at jRPG Horrors itselfs and we doing our best to make something unique and interesting about it.

We hope you'll like what we trying to do with all that, it's pretty much our dream to become developers after being players before.

What is SORA - Follow the Voice exactly?

CLASSIC+MODERN JAPANESE HORROR

First of all - our game will be about some classics to its genre. it's japanese school horror, it's filled with anime stylistics, it's about real world and realm of spirits - Limbo. And it's not some dance with bending below sticks, it's about state of suffering souls, condemned in some different dimension of unlimited and repeatable horror. They don't even know they're dead, they just exist in this cursed loop and we are going to join them. But the problem is that we will be alive, and our main goal is to get out of there.

Feels familiar, huh? That's why we call it the classics of jRPG Horror games. But we not just want to make another one game like these, we want something special. Fresh and pretty much modern, but still kind of familiar.

MEET SAYA NAGAVA

So SORA - Follow the Voice is a story about some pretty much usual girl named Saya Nagava, who decided to do some weird ritual she heard about in her new school. Not because she's also weird or something, she just get boored and kind of depressed and thought like "meh, screw it, let's do something strange and cursed for fun. Maybe it'll help with my mood or something". And of course we all know how it ends. And if you can imagine it already - you really came into right place.

IS THIS JRPG OR WHAT?

It's kinda hard to choose the right genre for our game. We talking about RPG, Adventure, Survival Horror, Episodic story with choises, a little bit Sandbox with main and side quests around huge LIMBO, which is randomly generates every new replay. But our really main goal - is our Sprites Animation, Smart NPC's, Skill Trees, Interesting Harvest and Loot system, Hiding in creepy corridors from evil spirits and monsters, Social and Karma system, Crafting system, Our Classroom Shelter and possibility to upgrade it. And all this will be looks in pixels and top view, but with really cozy and smooth animations.
So, yeah. It's kinda hard to choose the right genre.

We're decided to NOT use mouse and gamepad, so our games is keyboards only. We are really sorry about gamepads. We wanted em, but there is some problems we can't fix. and our current animation technics will not work on gamepads so yeah...

Anyways, keyboard will be handy. Current choice is pretty much universal for any sort of players and not really usual for RPG Maker games, as you can notice. So our games will be controlled as some kind of rpg action platformer with top view. You will like it, for sure. With all our animations included and dynamic and environmental physics itself.

Here is video playlist of our interfaces and how it's look so far, we're put each of them as separated videos and going to fill that playlist with all what is done and working for now.
We're done all this by ourselves and feels kinda honorable about it.

We're upgraded our Body models while doing some work in game menus.

I think there is our final option. It's still in plans and concepts, but soon we're going to work on bodies and it's animation mechanics. What's interesting about this new format and what our characters will able to do if all goes according the plan? There is some list of our wishes we wants to accomplish:

  • 5 types of height, 5 body types, 5 skin colors. 8 sides of directions they can turn, and all this with huge variables of body parts like breast sizes, eye shapes, types and colors of pupils, head also can spin and lean differently.
  • Layer System to characters graphics. Every character sprite is a mosaic, compiled with 10-25 layer parts, which depends on situation.
  • Characters are looking at 9 directions. They blinking, moving their mouths and eyebrows, also showing emotion effects like blushing.
  • Fully functional and adaptive in-game characters generator, which compiles some crowd people around from random parts. Also any added body part will support any possible animation, which makes any part universal for anyone who can fit it according it's body tags.
  • Body Injuring System, which is not just cosmetics - gameplay and mobility depends on it. Sora - is a survival horror. And we wish to make it like it should be. We can get sicknesses, we can break arms or legs, we can loose our eyes. Anything what happens to you makes gameplay harder. And some of it you can heal, some of it you can't.
  • Vocalization of breathing, screams and sighs. We'll not use any kind of vocals itself for dialogues, but we really want neutral sounds as much and deep as possible.
  • Dynamic Environment System. We can lean, jump across small objects, get behind it and taking covers, loot containers and slide. Also run, crouch, and crawl. It's all depends on our passive skills and health conditions. And it's not just what player can do. Any characters and monsters can do that more or less than us (depends on character). There is no more lame evading enemies that walks into you, every dangerous situation is now serious challenge and environmental use.
  • Highly Complex Animation System, which makes any gesticulation life-like and interesting visuals. You're not just playing some kind of walking and exploring game - you're in some pixel anime movie with top view camera, where is everything alive and react.
  • Characters and environment will be much bigger than usual, which is looks like zoom of the camera that more closer than average RPG Maker games. But its not too much close or something, we're found really good view that not cots your sight of surroundings too much.

I would be also with such level of professionalism.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
