None of my background sound files work when they're set in the map properties "auto-play BGS." It seems to play the effect a fraction of a second once the player enters the map, but then it's silence. I checked the transition events and they're fine.

BGM files work normally. All my sound files are in OGG format.

I've been trying to look parallel process or common events which could disrupt the BGS, but there are none.

Edit: This problem seems to exist only in my current project, making me think it can't be the computer causing it. I haven't tried removing my scripts yet, because most of them have been working in other games, and the new ones doesn't seem to do anything to the sound. I just want to know whether the reason even could be anywhere else.

Did you check the volume and the BGS master volume? Just in case.

Yep.
Edit: I'm pretty sure it's a certain script after all causing this trouble.

It's either a script or some event that you're running on every map that's stopping BGS.

Could be a common event that's being enabled every time you enter a map as well.

if it plays for a fraction of a second on entering, then it's most likely an event set to autorun that changes the background music.
Because that is the usual delay between mapload and the processing of autoruns - with a parallel process or a script such a delay would not exist.
(a script could have been programmed with such a delay but that is unlikely imho, and the parallel processes take priority over autoruns)

Try this with a new, empty map - if it happens on entering that new map, then it's most likely a common event.
If it doesn't happen with the new map it is something you created on your other maps.
