just checking - it IS a guy, right? he's, well, pretty androgenous, but I know that's pretty common

also, it is fairly reasonable if he's a young hero
Hehe yeah he's male :p

I got the final version back but it's a bit more androgenous than the sketch.. so kinda trying out some different things with his looks.

Alright so got some updates for everyone regarding Spectrum Seeker.

First off is an illustration for the title screen!

Below is the full illustration.  The full illustration will be shown as a cutscene when the star is fully restored to the tree at the end of the game.

So, SPOILER ALERT!!

My artist is Risa1, her work is amazing, and I'm lucky to be working with her!

Currently she is working on the main character Seiryuu, She's finished with the final version but I asked her to edit some things and give me 2 more versions.  Once they're done, I'll show it to everyone and see which one you all like best!

_______________________________________________

The Combat System and Skill Customization is also in the works!  DiamondPlatinum is hard at work, and is doing a pretty fantastic job so far with what he's shown me so far.

This system here allows you to socket different color cores you obtain from battles into your skills to transform them into new ones!  So you can experiment, find new spells you like, and use them in fights.  Each color is tied to a different element, so depending what you socket, you'll have an idea of what skill it will turn into.

Once the battle system is finished, I'll let you all have a peek at that too.  The above system ties into the battle system, you'll find out how soon enough ;)

**Also as a disclaimer, the artwork, maps, etc you see above won't be used in the actual game.  It's just a dummy map made to test out the system.

_____________________________________

While those two are working on their own respective piece, I myself am working on designing the main city Gamut.  I'll post updates every once in a while showing the progress.

Also this new blog and regarding updates in general, I'm going to try to stick to an update "atleast" once a week if not more, even if it's just a small one.

I'll be posting updates on this forum thread, my blog, and on facebook!  So subscribe and like whichever if you want to keep up to date.

Very cool...*continues to hide in the shadows and watch this thread* I very much like Risa1's illustration she made for you. And the core system sounds like it'll be cool. Keep it up!

This is a really nice looking game. It just looks so vibrant and awesome, you've done a great job with the maps you've shown.

Thanks everyone :D
@Kerb Well he is for testing purposes.  I'm also experimenting with mind transfusion so he's got the brains of Eric

I think that works >.>

You should like, take his Face Graphic and turn it into black-white.

Lol I'm not going to be using any of those graphics (in the gif) in the actual game :p

It's only a sandbox map to test out the new scripts.

I threw on the Spectrum Seeker Blog the final designs for Seiryuu, there's 3 different versions so if you can go over there and vote on your favorite, I'd appreciate it!

Personal Preference:

I like the longer hair more than the short hair in this case.

The red hair is standing out to me more than the grey hair.

Tight hand wrap.

You've already got a rainbow badge, having a rainbow bead might take away the effectiveness of that; single colour.

Love the art.

Love the concept.

Love the designs.

What I don't love is the fact that this isn't a thing yet.

@Ellis concept

Red hair over grey. Definitely.

I'm a fan of long hair, but that short hair is well designed and fits her face. I'm kinda split.

Loose hand wraps looks more dynamic and showy.

I usually prefer monotone accessories, but rainbow beads would match the theme of the game.

I would definetely chose the first one. Or the second one but with really black hair.

The project sounds awesome by the way, I'm gonna follow that!

I think the concept is unique and the art is beautiful. What is actual gameplay going to be like? Turn-based battles? Action-battle system? Puzzle game? Yes you combine colours to get skills but what's the gameplay going to be like?

Don't interpret this as me being critical or anything, I'd just like to see screenshots of gameplay updates if you've got some so far because I'm excited about the game. It's OK if you haven't got any yet, but it'd be cool to see updates on how that aspect of the game is going.

Thanks for everyone's input!  I appreciate it.  I'll post another update for her when her character bust is finished.

No worries, questions are always welcome :D

The game is going to currently be frontview turn based.  The combat system isn't exactly "finalized" but I've got inplace some custom modified scripts to fit the game.

For the skills, you can insert different colored gems to change the skill into a different one.  Adding a red gem to rising strike changes it to rising phoenix as an example.  So there'll be a nice level of skill customization.

For the actual combat, I'm using a custom modified version of Yanfly's combo system.  It's capable of checking for what "colors" of skills I use to produce the final attack.  Say I use 3 red skills in the combo, the 4th special attack resulting from that will be Lava slash.

Using the combo system too much takes away from the special feeling of it a bit and it might become annoying as longer chains take a while to finish.

So I'm trying to figure if I want to have the combo system only useable as a special move like a limit break or balance the skills to where they cost too much energy.  Perhaps I could also just make the animations faster.  Dunno

Might just end up making a whole other thread for this :p

More concept art, this time for Leon.  He's not a main party member but he is a main character in the story.  Leon is the father of Ellis, leader of the Azul City militia, and he fought in the battle against the faded when they raided Gamut decades ago.

Row 1 & 2, difference is fur and each column has a different belt design.  Which of these do you think looks best?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
