Sprite Creator Character Designer

I'm new to RPG Maker though knew of its existence for over 10 years. I just bought MV and my daughter was asking me if there was a plugin for painting and designing sprites/characters to incorporate into RPG maker MV. I did several searches and only come up with lots of requests for asking for artist for designing characters, not of any program in existence. I have a lot of painting programs, but figure I ask if something exists than use something and find out after there was something much easier to use. Thanks again.

Most people use Photoshop, Gimp or Paint.net. There's also a program called Aseprite that a few people I know use and like.

Graphics Gale is free and pretty good for sprites.  I don't personally use it, but I have in the past and I like it.  I don't think it's any easier to use than the other ones mentioned, but it's made specifically for making pixel animations so it's got some useful stuff built in and the animation tools are less hidden away by menus than Photoshop and GIMP.  If sprites are the only thing she's interested in, I think a specialized program would be good.  If she's interested in doing more things it'd be better to stick to a more diverse program like GIMP so she only has to learn one program for anything she might want to make.

Thank you mlogan and Sharm, your information was extremely helpful. I downloaded GIMP, and bought Asperite, but moment I saw GraphicsGale, I checked my Paintshop Pro cd and GraphicsGale looks almost exactly like Animation Shop which is a animation program that came with JASC paintshop pro in the early 2000. Funny thing about it, most people who bought paintshop pro don't even know they have it unless they read the advertisement when they bought the program or just happened to look through the install. Wonder if its the same writer. I can name just about any author from any book, but when it comes to software I always draw a blank, except Richard Garriott from the Ultima game series. Played all of his games since I was 12.His names just about burned into my head


Editing this because I did some research and found out the old paintshop pro is listed on abondonware and oldversions has them including the addon Animation shop so if anyone plans buying GraphicsGale, check out the version in paintshop. Hate for anyone to be buying something that's really free.
