I'm pretty sure I've seen character sprite sheets with names like "!$ActualName(6)" that RPG Maker animated correctly in 6 steps. I tried to figure out how exactly it works, so while you are helping @Nervundi , what's up with those naming formats and would they work for player/party characters as well?
@BlueworxThis thread explains sprite construction and the naming conventions. That being said, anything more than the 3x4 spritesheet requires a plugin to properly work. There are "more frames" plugins available.
