hmm I can't seem to figure it out. I thought you had to put $ in front of the file name when dealing mack sprites. When I do it, it grabs three sprite pictures in large frame, instead of the frame grabbing one of the sprite of the twelve. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thats only if its "One" big sprite, like the boss sprites in the RTP. If its two rows of four sprites, than you dont put any symbol at the beginning.

EDIT: Also, if its something like a door animation, than you should put a "!" symbol at the beginning.

EDIT2: Actually, can you provide the sprite sheet? That might help a little...

It quite often has to do with the dimensions of the sprite sheet.

Hehehe....

No, it doesn't.

$ at the front of the name means your spritesheet is the size of a single character.

No $ at the front of the name means your spritesheet is the size of 8 characters (even if some of them are empty).

Please show us a screenshot of your sprites.

Also, check your Mack spritesheets against the default VXA spritesheets to understand what Deathswallow and Shaz means.

If you have a spritesheet that is made for 8 characters, but only have one character image on it, you still should not have $ in front of the name.

If do the sprites alone, in their own group $ works. but when I do it as multiple characters grabs three of the same character.

You don't need to add an $ for this kind of spritesheet.

Try removing the $ symbol from your spritesheet's name.

Ah ok thanks, I found out what got me confused. I only do the $ when it is single sprite 3X4. Not a whole sheet. Thanks.

It would also help if you could be accurate when you explain what's happening. Count how many characters it's selected again. You've got FOUR columns, not THREE. If you DID have 3 columns, that would be an entirely different thing.

Susan is right (as several people have already explained) - your spritesheet contains 8 characters, not 1, so you do not use the $ at the start of the name.

Also, WHERE you are selecting the sprite makes a difference too. If you are just setting the graphic for an event, you will be able to choose any one of those 12x8 individual frames. However, if you are using the Change Graphic command, either from the main command list or within a Move Route, you will only be able to select the entire character (a group of 3 columns x 4 rows). This is actually what I suspected was happening based on your description of "when I do it as multiple characters grabs three of the same character". If you ARE seeing this when you're using the Change Graphic command, this is exactly what it's meant to do. You cannot choose the individual tiny sprite.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
