RPG Maker Forums

Hello! I'm new to the forums here, but I've been using RPG Makers for many years now, and though I've yet to release any game to the public, I'm planning on doing so with a current project that I'm pretty invested in at the moment. It has roughly 5 hours of gameplay, but I feel like the default battle system is lacking, and though I've got a good replacement in mind, I don't have the scripting knowledge to bring the idea to fruition, and I'm hoping I could get some feedback on it, and if possible, have it done by someone much more skilled than I. I'm even willing to pay for a commission. Anyways...

My favorite battle system in any RM game would be the Frozen World (by Lysander86, who made A Blurred Line). In TFW, each character had 5 available slots to place battle commands (Attack, Fire, Heal, etc.) These slots were numbered 1 through 5. The player was able to assign which commands would go in each slot. During battle, the party had a shared Stamina bar. For each character, one stamina point was given per turn, and they would use stamina points to select commands. Anything in slot 1 would take up 1 stamina point, and anything in slot 3 would take up 3 stamina points. However, the more stamina a command required, the more effective it would be. A healing skill in slot 4 would restore more HP than it would if it were in slot 1-3. And an attack skill would do more damage if it were in a higher slot. These commands could even be repeated, so you could have the same command in multiple slots. And if the player skipped a turn by selecting a Wait command, that character would not use any stamina, so it could be used by another character, or stored up and used for the next turn.

The Frozen World used events for the menu, battle screen, etc. And though it was a great game, the menus felt kind of clunky. But I'm hoping, through scripts, it would be possible to integrate this system into the menu and battle screen through scripts.

For an example of what it looks like, without playing the game, a fan of TFW remade the battle system and menu using another game engine and posted it on YouTube.

I even made my own crude looking mock-up :x with AP (Action Points) representing Stamina at the upper left corner: http://i41.tinypic.com/2zedrig.jpg

My game's story, characters, and world mean a lot to me, and I want to be able to share it with more people. But before I do, I want to make it more fun, and I think this will make the game much better. If anyone can help, or give me feedback on this, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
