Story
In a kingdom covered in snow, in a kingdom where the snow never melts and never goes away, there lives a prince who keeps watch over his kingdom and resolves to maintain peace. When the prince learns that his family's history isn't as spotless as he had been told, he endeavors to fix what his family had done wrong and to ensure the continual peace of his kingdom. This will lead the prince to battling the phantoms that prowl the lands, to saving a princess, and to realizing the secrets of his family and his kingdom.

The entire game takes place in Sabine Kingdom and the island that it rests on. The island is constantly shrouded in snow, but for some reason, no one ever feels cold. Plants continue to grow despite the snow, so there is no danger of a food shortage. There has never been a need to question this, so the residents of Sabine Kingdom are blissfully unaware.

Though of course, our prince--Snowe--is not blissfully unaware any longer. A dream leads him to combing through his parents' library and learning that something is amiss. What is our prince to do except try and fix what he had found? He can't just sit back and pretend like he hadn't read about a girl being locked in a tall tower where she may one day die from flames that threaten to burn her. No, he can't do that at all.

Characters
3e1bd4b47e.png

The titular prince. He wasn’t even fifteen before his parents died and has since then been raised by the adviser, Richard. Now barely into adulthood, Snowe feels the stress of relinquishing his boyhood ways and stepping into adulthood to lead the kingdom and to preserve peace. Even still, he isn’t ready yet to move on and delights in exploring the lands right outside his kingdom to search for anything else besides his snow ridden kingdom.

She may not have actual royal blood within her veins, but she is considered a princess by her two bodyguards–Hiante and Erio. She lives in the tower and keeps watch of the sky as part of her duty to the late King and Queen. She is armed with a long sword and does everything in her power to keep everything the way it’s supposed to be, as per the King and Queen’s request.

bea30fce5d.png

Made of bones and nothing else, his only duty is to protect Astra. He remembers nothing from his previous life, but he prefers it that way. He was summoned by the late King and Queen when Astra was still little and has raised her since. When he is not protecting Astra or arguing with Erio, he is lost in fantasy novels and endeavors to one day be a great knight.

0d19ea13dc.png

Taking the image of a young man, he has sworn to protect Astra from harm. While he cannot hold his own in most battles like Hiante, he has impeccable cloaking techniques and can teleport practically anywhere on Sabine, provided Astra is there. While he loathes the King and Queen, he has a fondness for both Astra and Hiante (though he won’t admit that) which keeps him near the tower.

d04392a532.png

A blue haired woman who was charged with protecting the entrance to the Sepulcher. For years she’s stayed there to perform her duty to the late King and Queen, however, she doesn’t want to remain there forever. She always dreams of going back home, however, she was raised to perform one’s duty, so she does not leave her post.

Downloads
The game is available to download through the itch.io page here:
https://earlronove.itch.io/star-stealing-prince
And also be sure to check out the wonderful trailer that Volrath made for it! It gets the tone of the game down extraordinarily well! He set it to Iron Maiden's "Look for the Truth" and Volrath did it all in the RMVX editor and then recorded that and uploaded it to youtube.

Please visit the Wordpress for more information! Before asking me for help with a puzzle or boss help, please read the guides! A lot of potential questions are already answered. If you find yourself with a question I haven't answered, feel free to ask it!

Star Stealing Prince Korean Translation

@TohoTaku on twitter has graciously provided a Korean translation of the game so if that's something you're interested in, follow the link!

Let's Plays & Video Walkthroughs
There have been a few LPs or Walkthroughs for SSP and I thought it'd be kind if I were to link them for those who have trouble playing the game for whatever reason.

Volrath's LP/Walkthrough : My favorite (but I am biased...) by our very own Master of the Wind creator, Volrath. He gushes a lot, so warning if you don't like gushing. He's told me he's going to do a walkthrough as well and I think he'll be a bit more thorough than michael95.

michael95's Walkthrough : This has no commentary at all and he takes you through the game as just a normal player and shows you how to get through it. It's not the best walkthrough (he misses very important skills and doesn't get their final weapons) but if you want to see how the game plays and all that, it's definitely worth the watch.

Clareain_Christopher's LP : This one has commentary! It's quite long and goes through the entire game. He has the whole game finished (both good and bad endings) and seems to know what he's doing. :p

Soren Highwind's LP : This one is done the old way of LPing! Through screenshots! I think he's following my guide pretty well (I mean, he found items in town that no one has found to my knowledge on other LPs!), or he could just be checking everything. In any case, don't like watching videos? Have this one! He just has the town sufficiently explored so far, so give it a look!

For those that enjoyed Star Stealing Prince, I have been hard at work on the sequel! It's a webnovel rather than an RPG and I have been updating it a chapter a week since the beginning of May. It has two parts: Fleeting and Permanence. Fleeting (which I'm working on now) follows the Bad Ending of Star Stealing Prince. When I finish, I will begin work on Permanence which follows the Good Ending of Star Stealing Prince. Both sequels are related, so I hope you can follow along! If you're curious at all, feel free to click the banner below and begin reading.

You only gave it 4.5 originally, Emmych, if I remember things rightly, but I did get your fangirlisms all over me... your review is covered with them!

But you're still no less correct, if someone were to ask me, "What makes a good RM game?" I'd just point here. If you have RM, you need to play this. If you don't have RM, you still need to play this. Even if you have some sort of weird obscure disease, you NEED to play this. Everyone does; it's the law.

I had the pleasure of testing this and it was fantastic, although being familiar with Ronnie and her talents I wasn't expecting anything less than amazing. 8D

So yeah, play this! Now! Go go go hurry and download!

I really like this game. I like it so much I made a trailer for it!

But really, it's an awesome experience to play and anyone who hasn't should scroll up and hit one of those download buttons. I think it will be especially inspirational to those who work with custom sprites/tilesets and the like. You CAN have a ton of original art and actually finish a full-length game, and here's the proof.

@Nemau: I swore the French community had a few really nice looking RM games. I recall some making me go *O* so pretty!

@Emmych: Everyone should flail with fangirlisms every so often. I think it's good for people!

@AstoXx: Aww, thank you! XD Emmy did change it from a 4.5 to a 5 after thinking more on it! So it's now at a nice solid number! 8D

@Euphony: You tested the CRAP out of this. And even did more testing than you really HAD to! But you're really cool for putting up with all that testing, haha. *huggles*

@Volrath: Yay for your trailer! 8D But yeah, custom art/sprites is totally possible, you just gotta keep at it and don't let the project down!

*squishes Ronnie with epic huggles*

Volrath brings up a really great point. I agree that it is good inspiration for people who are striving to use a lot of custom resources. And all parallax mapping, too!

hey a game that i actually want to play d:o

before i do that rye i'm wondering what level of feedback are you open to. i mean i rarely play a game without writing a tremendous amount of notes on it and then compiling it into a review. the game is finished and i doubt you're looking for the kind of critique that i'm used to giving when i play demos and stuff but if i were to do that anyway would you want that kind of thing to maybe apply to future projects

THEN AGAIN based on what i have seen from this game it's probably the rare rpgmaker game that i won't need to write a ****load of notes about. you know how much stock i put into good, original consistent graphics so anticipate this to be THE **** anyway.

Well, the game's finished and unless something is DRASTICALLY wrong that makes the game unplayable, I'm probably not going to change anymore.

If you have some helpful tips that I can use on a my new project, feel free to point them out. I already know a few things I'm getting better at (or at least planning it--like pacing issues that Emmy pointed out in her review on RMN; already working on making sure my next project is more even in that regard (and then awkward writing which fixes itself because I'm doing it in Word before I do it in the editor where I can obssess over it better)), so the more the merrier in terms of what I can work on. As long as you don't go on and on about how you don't like my art, I really don't think I'd feel the need to ignore comments from you. :)

i hate your style in isolation but that doesn't mean it's inherently BAD, and within the context of a game where everything is consistent it looks great, so those kinds of comments wouldn't be in a review of the game anyway

Hi,

I tested your game until chapter 3 where the mobs in the tower hurted like hell the hero !

I didn't flee any battle, I just didn't explore the whole cave so that's a bit harsh to put strong monsters which deal 20 (and more) damages on the hero who has only 87 HP. So, I already died a few time in that tower because 2 enemies, it's 40 damages per turn...

So far, I like your story and your mapping.

I will try again later.

Can you be more specific on which enemies? The windy wisps or tired ghosts? Tired Ghosts are really weak to fire so you should be sure to let loose Snowe's Flame I on them (assuming you grabbed it, which I hope you did!). If you're having trouble with both, you should be able to Flame I the Tired Ghost, it should go down, and the extra attack should focus on the Windy Wisp. Then one more hit on the Windy Wisp and it will go down.

You really, really need to use elements in this game. Stun is the most useful thing you can do in a battle. I always make use of all 4 spells when I encounter new enemies to learn their weaknesses. Then when I run into them again, I can rip them to shreds.

Top 3 tips for battle in SSP:

1) Use your elemental magics, and stun the hell out of those enemies.

2) Child's Cornet; use it

3) Scary Mask; use it

Definitely, AstoXx.

The hardest part of the game is the first two dungeons, I'd say, because you're still getting used to the play style of the game. Hahaha, I went into it expecting to play another Squeenix style RPG (since that's what it looked like!) and got something totally different! Definitely a good thing, but it was a little hard to get used to.

Now that I'm used to it, though, the game is a snap. B)

Glad you brought this title over here Ronnie. I will attest to the majority and say this game is very good. One of the top 5 RM RPG's I've played and I've played a lot of them. Had a heck of a time with the 1st boss though.

If it was in cave, then I am doomed

The only place I 100% explored is your village.

It was really charming, thought, I would've prefered optional quests rather donations from villagers, it was quite uncomon lol.

Using elemental weakness in your game is a nice idea though it souldn't be vital to not have some spells.

You've a good example in Devil survivor 1 & 2 (DS), the battles can be easy if you have the right element to kill the enemies but you still can kill the ennemies with pure strength or other spells if you don't because they do not kill you in 2 turns.

Uhhh... Flame I is in Snowe's room. You should have got it pretty easy. If you haven't, then the game SHOULD be hard. It rewards exploration, but there are some things you shouldn't miss at all. Just make sure you go everywhere and search everything. Not only will this net you all the good items, such as the ultimate weapons (I got 3 out of 4 on my first playthrough) but you'll also get more experience from battles, making consequent battles actually easier. This is invaluable because boss battles are a wake-up slap, indeed.
