Well, I used RMXP, years back, and I was starting to get good, but then I pretty much got bored and stopped using it, anyway, now I picked up Ace, and wanted to forget everything I've known, and just start from the beginning, to my surprise, I'm really getting stuck at some basic stuff that I should know, but there it is, I don't. So, I want to use this thread to ask about all the problems I run into, while I finish all of these tutorials.

Anyway, I've been doing these tutorials to refresh my memory. I'm at the 2nd tutorial, and I've run into some problems when it comes to edges of autotiles, if you would navigate to page 13 in that second tutorial, you can see how the bridge is placed, and straight from the bridge, there's a dirt path, however, with me, it's like this:

http://pokit.org/get/?864f01344949ec398c0d46a4fef72880.jpg

As you can see, before the dirt path, there is a little piece of grass, from the edge of the autotile of that water. I've tried using the water with dirt edges, BUT then it just creates that autotile within the other autotile, and it looks like a pool in the river. I tried simply using dirt autotiles while holding shift, but then I end up with a different problem, as seen here:

http://pokit.org/get/?768c144150ca2129695e27a45a9ef9ab.jpg

I have those sharp dirt edges around the bridge, tutorial didn't explain those little details, so I need to ask here. How do I fix this to have a smooth transition between bridge and the dirt path?

On a different note, do you guys think that the trees and actors are abnormally small in VX Ace, compared to structures and detail tiles (barrels, rocks...etc), and trees are too small for actors, as well? It bothers me, and makes me want to create original graphics for my projects.

That's all for now, I'll keep all my questions related to these tutorials in this thread. Hopefully, people will help out, as I go and run into problems.

Make the exact shap of the dirt tile you want some where else. Then Right click it while holding shift. Hold shift then right click. Keep holding **** and left click where you want that tile. then erase where you made the first step. Hope this works. it worked for me at least when i had this same problem.

Thanks, that solved my problem, but is there some different way to do this? This seems more like a workaround, rather than how it is actually supposed to work. I mean, creating a shape, and then sort of, copying it seems like you're creating a tool of your own, rather than using an actual tool of the software to accomplish this. It just seems weird to me that you would need to do it like this.

@Admin, Moderator

If you could not lock this thread, that would be awesome, as I plan on asking all the questions regarding this beginner tutorials in here, and I'm sure to run into more problems as I go through them, and I don't want to spam the forum with million threads with mini-questions that don't deserve their own thread anyway. Once I'm finished doing these, I'll notify your for a lock, if that's not a problem?

RMMV
however, with me, it's like this:
supertristan posted the solution, but his post won't help you if it comes to variants of the same effect.
What is used in the tutorial there is the so-called shift-click mapping. Effectively, there are four different ways to paste a tile into a map, depending on holding or not holding the shift button during the selection and/or the placement.

This has different effects on how the map will look like.

Follow the link in my signature, one of the tutorials linked there teaches you specifically the different forms of shift-click mapping. That tool's part is a bit short on description in the official tutorials ;-)

Yes i did come up with that myself, and i glad it helped, at least for now. I had the same problem as you and this was my creative way to fix it. I tried but couldn't find away around it so i messed with it and found out this works. Pesonally though i would rather do all of this "workaropund" than spend an undue amount of time finding a better way to fix this.

Yeah, I've just realized that the method that supertristan wrote doesn't work for the cliff edges in order to make transition for stairs. Actually, it worked for the top side, but not for the bottom.

Is this the tutorial you were referring to?

Using all the different types of shift-click mapping, I wasn't able to fix my problem. Is there a tutorial that specifically explains how to make transitions?

Look at this

It makes me sick D:

Edit:

OK, I think I figured it out, with shift+clicking, but it still feels like a workaround to me. I mean, I managed to fix this, but I don't know how to explain, it just doesn't feel natural.

Ok, scratch that, definitely figured it out, it's so easy now.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
