Whenever I boot RPG Maker VX Ace, either through my Steam Library or by manually activating the .exe from Program Files, I receive an 'RPGVXAce Editor has stopped working' error. Here's the problem signature:

Problem signature:

  Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

  Application Name: RPGVXAce.exe

  Application Version: 1.0.2.2

  Application Timestamp: 530bebec

  Fault Module Name: RGSS301.dll

  Fault Module Version: 3.0.1.1

  Fault Module Timestamp: 4f443355

  Exception Code: c0000005

  Exception Offset: 00082ca7

  OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48

  Locale ID: 1033

  Additional Information 1: 0a9e

  Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

  Additional Information 3: 0a9e

  Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

I have the latest version of Windows 7 x64, and I've tried stopping all of my services (sans Microsoft or Windows sevices), but the problem persists even in an environment without 3rd-party applications. I'm completely baffled (and agitated) by this error, because I spent $50+ on Ace and add-ons during the Steam Sale and I cannot access or utilize any of my purchases. I'd appreciate any help with my situation.

Thanks in advance,

Benjamin

Did you try uninstalling and resinstalling?

Yes. I even installed a 'pirated' version just to make sure Steam's Ace file wasn't corrupt.

(both versions give me the same error)

(I receive the same error when booting the program in Safe Mode)

Could be a driver issue? Check if you can update your graphics and audio drivers.

No dice, all of my drivers are up-to-date.

I don't know if this is relevant, but I can run RPG Maker XP without a single issue.

Hello, I've already sent this to tech support, please be patient with us! I'm not sure why your VXAce won't work though since I have the same OS as you do. So it's understandably baffling D:

No worries, these things happen! Yes, this issue is a little odd, especially since I was able to run the program on the exact same harddrive with the exact same Windows 7 before I wiped it and reinstalled Windows because I built a new PC. RPGVX Ace is the only program that has given me this error, which makes me wonder if - for some reason - my PC is unable to properly run Ruby or communicate with that particular Ruby program.

it might be a conflicting background program you installed with the new windows, or that you missed to replace the mainboard drivers (Microsoft only provides general basic drivers for PCI, IDE and the different buses - depending on what mainboard you have, you'll need to replace those general drivers with the specific hardware drivers to get you computer to full speed and capacity)

I tried a fresh boot with no third-party services active (also tried booting in safe mode), and I still receive the error.

I'm reinstalling my chipset drivers right now just to be safe.

EDIT: I didn't have the proper chipset installed after all, but even after installing the correct drivers I'm still receiving the error.

Do you have an SiS-Chipset? they're rarer today than they were ten years ago, but those drivers had a problem that they needed to be installed before all other drivers - if a single other driver was already installed when installing the SiS-Chipset, you had a risk that the drivers would collide and never work properly. But I haven't heard of that specific error in years...
One other option: not only deinstall the game from steam, but also clear all steam cache before rebooting and then reinstalling.

Also deactivate the steam cloud connection in the program properties from steam - I heard that some people had synchronising problems...

No, it's an MSI Motherboard with an AMD Chipset.

I'll try your other suggestion, but I'm not entirely certain it's an issue related to Steam. I downloaded a separate copy of Ace (unrelated to Steam) just to see if it would function outside of a Steam-based environment, and it gives me the same error as the Steam version. I'll try your suggestion real quick, though.

EDIT: Nope, still hitting the error even with Cloud synchronization turned off. I cleared the Steam cache before installing the program, and I successfully verified the RMVX Ace cache. It doesn't appear that caching is an issue.

Then I suggest a tech support ticket (link top right on the site), I don't have any other idea what it could be...

Tech support hasn't been much help. I received an e-mail saying they were looking into the problem, but that was nine days ago. Just shot an e-mail response saying that, if the issue can't be resolved, I'd like a refund so I can purchase a different program.

Any other last suggestions?
