Been running into this problem ever since I bought the software. The details are that I open RPG Maker MV through the Steam client, it's splash screen appears and closes, and the application itself closes a few seconds afterward. I have not gotten past that at all. I have also tried opening the software through the directory itself as Administrator, yet no dice.

My OS is Windows 10, my GPU is an 4GB RX580, which I believe is running the latest drivers from AMD. My CPU is a Ryzen 3 3200g, however nothing is running the internal graphics, and I'm using two monitors. For reference, I obtained my copy from Humble Bundle's store. I don't know what caused this in general, as I have tried multiple other solutions from previous threads within the forum.

So, what the hell do I do here? I'm saving the full reinstall of Windows for last for a multitude of reasons, and most of the solutions that people have mentioned in other threads have not worked, i.e. clearing the download cache then verifying the files.

It might help if you mention (or link to) the tips/threads that you've already read and tried.

If it's flat-out crashing then you might be able to find an error report in the Windows Event Viewer. You could launch RPG Maker, note the time it closes, then look for an error report under Custom Views -> Administrative Events with a similar timestamp.

Otherwise...I don't know what the cause is, but here are some ideas:
  1. It might be a graphics issue. Where did you get, and how did you install, the driver update?

  2. Have you rebooted your system since installing RMMZ? That can fix many strange problems.

  3. If you verify files through Steam and it downloads something, try verifying again right after that. If it downloads "missing" files again, that suggests something's either deleting or refusing access to the file(s). You could check your security apps (e.g. Windows Defender) to see if they got over-enthusiastic and stuck an RPG Maker file in quarantine or something.
You could also contact support, if you haven't already:

I'm using two monitors.
As caethyril said, it would be helpful to know what other threads you've read. But if you've read any similar to your issue, this is a pretty prevalent cause.

Many people experience bugs with MV trying to open on the secondary monitor, and instead it closes. Try unplugging your second monitor, opening MV, and if it loads properly you can plug your monitor back in after.

Despite my hours of searching, I never saw that. I'll try that and see if it works.

It doesn't. It's not the same effect though. It'll try opening, but when it closes, the splash screen doesn't even appear.

The driver update was obtained from the Radeon Software app. Not from Windows Update.

Yes, multiple times since.

I'll see if it downloads files again on a second verification. AFAIR, when I tried cleaning the download cache, and verified the files, it said all the files were completely fine. If it doesn't, I'll edit this post and let you know.

The verification was completed, and all 10019 files were successfully validated. That doesn't seem to be the issue.

This might be a dummy question, but...do you have Steam open? What you're describing is pretty exactly what happens if I try to open a project but Steam isn't running to verify the software. The splash screen displays for several seconds, then it just stops.

It is the Steam Edition, so that is the first thing I tried, even with the second display off. I'd also like to point out that I'm not opening a project in RPG Maker MV, but trying to open the Maker itself. Hope that helps with anything.

I know it's been over a year? But I've also been having issues trying to load up RPG Maker MV, via Steam.

EDIT: Reason I'm adding my complaint, is due to not seeing the issue apparently be resolved in this thread.

Last EDIT: It might be due to outdated graphics drivers. Try updating your graphic drives, before relaunching. That might do the trick. It worked for me, at last and least.

I mentioned graphics driver updates in point 1 of my original reply here, and the OP said they'd already tried that, to no avail. This is part of the reason we ask people to start their own threads: that keeps it to 1 problem per thread. Here's the standard message (you're not in trouble):

@ArcaneHermit, please refrain from necro-posting in a thread. Necro-posting is posting in a thread that has not had posting activity in over 30 days. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

Closing this. @Hyperjou if you would like this thread re-opened, please report this post and leave a message why. Thank you.
