Hey everyone ! How are you ? Hope you're doing great !

Say, I was wondering what would you rather do: Install the RPG Maker MV through Steam or from outside steam from the setup file on the email link ?

Is there even any difference ?

Would be glad to know your opinion !

Steam would give you updates automatically, while the standalone would only be updated when you were made aware that an update is available and you download and install it. That is the only advantage the steam version would have for me personally, because I have no interest in the rest of what steam provides. So I guess it depends on whether you're a big steam user. I hate it, so I much prefer standalone programs.

standalone is better if you dont run steam daily. nothing worse than launching an app only to wait for steam to downloads its own updates and restart...

well it possible to run steam version offline and also possible to have multiple instances of mv running

but it's more easy to do that in the non steam version ^^

the pro's of the vxa steam version aren't there jet in mv (cloud storage and ressource sharing)

so the only real difference as i the atm are the automatic updates as shaz pointed out

with the con of slower start

Depends if we get more features for the Steam version as well. Like if Workshop is still a possibility in the future.

I believe Steam Trading Cards were confirmed, for anyone who cares about Steam Market stuff or wants to make the badges. But that's not currently out yet.

You can completely close Steam and MV will keep running. You only need Steam to launch it (eg running the RPGMV.EXE file)

I installed MV on my laptop already. I also want it on my iMac, but there isn't a standalone version for the osx yet. If I use my key to install the steam version, will that screw me over when and if a stand alone version comes out for osx? I'd much rather not get stuck having to use the steam version. What I mean is, since you can only use the key on two computers, does that mean I won't be able to use my key for each three versions, even though two are on the same computer?

no. You can use your key to activate both the standalone AND mac versions. If you have any issues it might be because of the number of times it's been used. If that happens, it's just a matter of contacting support and they'll reset the activation counts.

I was thinking precisly on this when I started this post.... How do you even update the standalone version? Sorry if I look like a real noob

I prefer the Steam version of RPG Maker to the non-Steam version because it lets all my friends know that I'm being productive and creative while they're wasting their lives playing video games.

Meanwhile, I'm actually at Starbucks playing Downwell on my phone.

Does anyone know if it's possible to trade the steam version in for the stand alone version? I think such an answer would help people to carefully consider their choice before purchase. you know.. considering they may want to use a computer with limited resources and how steam wants them.. as minimal as it may be...

If you purchase the standalone version, you automatically get the steam version as well - that's one of the advantages of purchasing from the site instead of from steam.

Well I use the standalone if I mod the character generator while GCH is still working on the MV Section of it. And using the Steam version as my default use.
