I bought RPG Maker VX Ace on rpgmakerweb.com

Will I be able to use Steam Workshop ?
There is a different topic on this forum where you can ask for a steam key if you purchased it here.
Search for it, I don't have the link ready.

I guess I need to ask for steam key as well.

I'm kinda exciting for the workshop even if i'm new on this forum.

workshop uploads DON'T require basic RTP files in the folders when loading it, just specific files you've added not in basic RTP right?

I'm assume anyone going into workshop already has Ace steam version installed.

Bought a bunch of stuff including 3 DLC - the two modern day packs and the DS+ resource pack. Even if tilesets don't match, I can still make use of the busts, and vice-versa!

Oh, and this is like, the perfect software to have a steam workshop.  I may not be on my PC right now, but I'm still able to subscribe to stuff for download later :D

To add to someone else's earlier question.

You can download steam VX ace onto multiple computers, but must be logged into steam to use it, so, only one computer can log into VX ace under your credentials. If someone else with steam uses your computer, they can use your copy under their steam credentials if they've bought the program.

Project upload fails at the moment but nice addition. Still I would prefer proper publishing with encrypted game.
Yeah, we are looking into adding functionality for encrypted games, but we have to hammer out some details first. Also, if you're having difficulties uploading, perhaps this guide can help :)

If you bought RPG Maker VX Ace here, you can get a Steam key by sending in a support ticket or e-mailing marketing@rpgmakerweb.com :)

Also, RTP isn't needed for games on Steam Workshop since anyone playing will already have the RTP installed. This will help reduce file sizes, since the limit of 200 MB is kind of small for some games.

*sees 75% off sale, eyebrows skyrocket*

Come to papa! =D

Though now I wish I'd waited before buying the DS+ package :<

...Oh well.

OT: Awesome! ^^

This could possibly open the doors. Quite a few doors.

Especially since the size limit is 200MB (vs 50MB w/o Members+ on this site), and even with the RTP many games would fall beneath that.

To piggy back on this, please note that it is an EULA violation for another user to gain access to your Steam copy of VX Ace by letting them use your account on their computer. Per the EULA, as written on Steam:

B. License ENTERBRAIN grants to Licensee a non-exclusive, non-assignable license to use the Software on only one (1) computer by installing the Software, and Licensee cannot use the Software concurrently by and on multiple computers.

Of course, with Steam it's a little different by nature since the game is bound to your -username-. Nevertheless, having other users get access to your purchase by giving them your steam username/password is essentially gaming the system. That isn't cool :(

Just a quick question about the workshop, I downloaded resources packs through it and I do not know where they are located.  I've been able to go through dlc and find the resource packs for purchase, but it seems that isn't the destination of the workshop files.

Edit: Projects seems to have cards which say "User Generated Content", but opening them up in PS  shows no layers other than the card itself.

Hi!

After downloading the resources, go into the Manage Projects interface on RPG Maker. Select the resources and press the "import" button. This will open up the Project Manager with the file destination automatically set to the folder with the resources you've selected. From there, it's like importing resources normally :)

I hope this helps - we may need to amend the guide to be more clear on how to use resources.

@Paladinthug:- I was looking for the place the projects/resources were saved down to for quite a while too. The DLC and Resource importers wasn't working for me [still isn't actually, it just opens up the last directory from which I imported my own resources. Must be a little bug?]

Anyway, I'm not sure it it'll be the same for you, but the project files for things I've subscribed to were located in my standard RPGVXAce folder in my Documents, along with all my other project folders. One way to find them is to select "Manage Projects" from the file menu, it should show the "save path" for the projects there.

Also, I'm not sure but the cards with "User Generated Content" I think are just default images used when uploading content to the Workshop. They're not layered or anything, just .bmp files which seem to open in Photoshop by default, at least they do on my machine.

Hope that helps at least a little bit. Sorry if my explanations suck, I just woke up and haven't yet had coffee -_-

Congratulations, guys! I've been hoping for Steam integration for quite a while. I'm glad to see it's finally come to fruition.

As a side note, if any devs want to add me on Steam to get better connected, the link to my profile is in my signature. Whoops, no it's not! Here it is.

Is that a 'per upload' limit, or a 'per user' limit?

It's a per-upload limit. And kind of on the same topic: it's also recommended that you only download one game at a time to prevent time-outs. I made the mistake of subscribing to every one of the 30+ launch titles at once to see what would happen ;)

And yeah, I am almost certain the User-Generated Content images are defaults.

The resource importer should be sending you to the resource pack that you have currently selected. If not, we can take a look at that too :)

And for stability purposes, all workshop-related tasks should be kept to the Libraries/Documents/RPGVXAce folder.

I've just figured out how to do it, but yeah I think clarity in the guide would be really useful. The importer is working fine, it's just a bit confusing. The DLC button on the other hand seems to be broken. Like I said it just opens the last location you imported from :S

Yeah, we'll be sure to amend the Steam Workshop Guide/FAQ on how to import Workshop resources properly. Someone is updating the FAQ as we speak but we'll get a step-by-step process posted soon, as it's rather different than the normal importing process.

I also tested the DLC button. It indeed does not work when you're in Manage Projects/Import Resources mode and it seems to default to the parent DLC folder of RPG Maker when you select it. You have to import via the actual "import" button and not the "DLC" button when in Manage Projects. We'll work to get this streamlined, or perhaps hide the "DLC" button entirely when you're in the Manage Projects interface (since it's not really useful there anyway).

Edit: thanks for pointing this out, though! We definitely see the possible confusion there.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD

Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
