Have you played all the games mentioned you consider "not weird"?

Also, weird is only defined in relation to other things. Even if you don't find Undertale for instance weird, doesn't mean that it isn't weird, only that your tolerance for weird is much higher.

Also, having played Space Funeral, I wouldn't actually consider it weirder than Baroque. It may be more "shock weirdness", but it isn't weirder.

Also, also, I make a distinction between games that are designed as games and "games" that are designed to LUL BE WEIRD.

So what if it is rude.
The problem with that is
EITHER you wish to "re-educate" people, as you put it, in which case, being both condescending and insolent at the same time is counter-productive. That is not the way to influence people and get them to consider that your opinion has any merit.
OR you just want to be rude. In which case, people won't listen to your opinion.

It seems, therefore, that being rude is a rather fruitless exercise. Unless, of course, your intention is simply to troll.

You said this to me two times that I am only here to "troll". Which I ain't. I'm just pissed off knowing that people consider any form of game genre with something like undertale. Undertale ain't weird. They just want to say that they enjoy or not enjoy the game as a form of attention. Which is stupid in itself.

Its like the exact same thing when saying something is off topic to the conversation itself.

I have played undertale. But I never even heard of something like Borque USA (or whatever it is called). Some games are unique and have a small amount of people who actually knows these games. For example: Since when was it the last time someone mentioned something like what I said (One of the games above). Sure, undertale can be considered one but lets keep that out of subject for this one (since its obvious). And since when have you heard of games (such as LISA or Space Funeral) from a friend or someone in a chat. Which one is most mentioned in the end?

Now, defending your argument. You do have a point. And weird has several different meanings. I do get what you mean. I could use something else besides weird. Like unique or something similar.

Actually, it's quadruple posting. If you want to add something to an existing post, just use the Edit button. If you want to quote more than one person, use the multi-quote button.

Uhh, to keep the guy who is ironically talking the most about undertale in this thread happy I'll not talk about it, though I do agree with the people who said it was a weird game personally.

I also second the guy who brought up Baton Kaitos, game provided the old cliche 'dark god' story on the surface, then pulled the rug out from under it by having the player (I mean, the actual player, not the player's character) turn out to be said dark god communicating with and linked with the protagonist from another world. It's a strange game, but to disagree with the couple people who said the mother series is the only one that ever made weird work it was a good game as well.

Star Ocean: Til the end of time was also pretty weird with it's futuristic medieval landscape that turned out to be a virtual reality world created by...other virtual beings as entertainment. So essentially a game where you play as a game character who breaks through the game and into 'reality' within the game. Yeah, inception-like plot twists are my go-to definition for weird, since apparently we need to define it or be told off.

Bloodborne is another weird one. I mean, the only way to win the game is to consume the tainted umbilical cords of dead human/alien hybrid babies, the remains of which you use in occult rituals along with various other body parts in order to unlock new dungeons. It's like the souls guys all got together and decided to make a spinoff as disgustingly weird as possible, which is kind of ****ty of them in my opinion considering how much of the souls games' lore is really just player interpretation, not much you can interpret into cannibalizing alien baby parts to gain the power to fight against Lovecraftian horrors that isn't just completely dark and sick, it is truly a game with the message that everyone is either a gluttonous monster or a failure who gets devoured in the end. Great combat though, I can't get enough of the game's pvp regardless of how gross the game itself is.

The Epic Battle Fantasy tends to be pretty weird. The series was created when the creator of the series ("MattLikeSwords") was only 15 or so, so you can already imagine what it's like. The rule of cool ramped up to eleven and beyond. It's basically everything the creator likes thrown in one. You got Final Fantasy parodies, NPCs straight from various anime (Soul Eater and Gurren Lagann being particularly popular), heck, the final boss of the first game was Goku from Dragon Ball Z. It sounds like a mess, but theirs such a sincere love put in the games that it never feels forced. To this day it's the only series I've seen to use outdated internet memes and not come off as cringey.

The Penny Arcade RPGs are also up there but ehhh. The joke is that they're weird but take themselves seriously. It never really reaches the heights of some games that pull off the same effect like Charles Barkley Shut up and Jam Gaiden and just comes off as kind of bland and uninteresting on repeated playthroughs.

Since the forum software lost one of the really strange ones on the first page, I'm posting it again so you can all share in the fun. Aruga!

PS: Swearing in the video, fair warning.

Skunk+Maid

Game where you play as a Skunk who wants to become a pumpkin by finding three golden penises and giving them to a King who can grant wishes. Also, there's Great Deku Tree.

Game was made under heavy sleep deprivation so it is pretty insane.

And yes it is 100% real.

Why are you so hostile to other people's opinions on a definition as subjective as what they personally find weird? Textbook definition for weird is:

1. involving or suggesting the supernatural; unearthly or uncanny:
2. fantastic; bizarre:
3. Archaic .concerned with or controlling fate or destiny

You seem fixated with the second definition, while I and others who you are so strangely hostile to seem to abide more by the first definition. Using my own examples bloodborne is nothing but supernatural and uncanny, as is to a lesser extent the idea of video game characters achieving sentience and breaking into a sort of sub-reality between the games original world and the world the player inhibits, or the concept that the player controlling the character is actually possessing them like some sort of demon corrupting them from another world. Most games have rules that are outside of earthly laws and touch on supernatural themes, making most games 'weird' depending on the user's familiarity and comfort level with the medium. If you ask my grandmother's opinion all video games, and the entire concept of people wasting parts of their limited lives on them is weird, and technically speaking she isn't wrong in that assertion. To her it truly is bizarre.

The games you define as weird I find nonsensical. Perhaps if this were a decade and a half ago I could delve into a game like Hylics in the throes of an acid trip and ascribe all kinds of off the wall meanings to what's going on on screen and just be awed by it, but as I am now I look at a gameplay video and just move on, because the game is so far outside of my comfort zone that I don't understand what its purpose is, much like my grandmother feels whenever she sees me playing games period. Perhaps I'm missing out, but it is what it is.

*facepalms* I just realized how bizarre this entire conversation is, as this thread is not even the "weirdest rpg" thread but the "Strangest RPG" thread.

Strange: Not before known, heard or seen: unfamiliar.

Guess what, everything is unfamiliar to someone, it's all a matter of perspective and as @Touchfuzzy says just because your tolerance for such things is much higher than mine doesn't invalidate what I perceive as strange. What is unfamiliar is entirely dependent upon what the subject is actually familiar with in the first place, I.E; it's an entirely subjective construct.

TL;DR- Yes, Minecraft is a weird game.

@bgillisp I liked your posting of gulpy gulpy...just so I could unlike it. The guy who made that game really has an intimate understanding of the word annoying. Just, damn. That old parable about the fox who lost his tail comes to mind. I both hate you for creating the circumstance where I suffer through that along with you; and respect why you did it as I now want to introduce someone else' eardrums to this 'masterpiece' in the art of annoyance to soothe my own damaged psyche.

I personally didn't even find Undertale to be that weird outside one of the three final bosses and the final dungeon.

Considering what its inspirations come from, most of it's earliest fans either came for its Earthbound/Mother inspirations or were fans of Toby Fox's involvement with the Homestuck webcomic. Both I personally find to be much weirder/stranger works of fiction.

Strange in generally good or bad way, in game context, mechanic, and even story. There are many kind of strange. For this one, I gotta agree with @Shikashi

Elona is my most favorite, and one of the most underrated but popular, free open source roguelike RPG out there. It is a strange game, but in a good way. I wanna talk a lot about it, but that would take pages. So I will just leave a video review of the game's here.

...nobody's mentioned OFF? That game has smoke mines, metal farms, plastic oceans and drinkable meat. You fight a boss who's a bird rising out of a dead cat. It's very French-weird. The art is definitely strange for 2k3. So, in terms of RPG Maker games, it's definitely OFF.

Yume Nikki is probably up there, too, but a lot of its fangames come pretty close. Especially .flow, that one really weirded me out for some reason.

But strangest RPG in general?

I mean, at least some part of Frog Fractions could probably be described as an RPG.

Nice plug...
Well I think I would say Digital Devil Saga for me, although I haven't actually played it and have only seen it through speedrunning really. Shin Megami Tensei is generally a very unique franchise and I wish there were other games like them. But Digital Devil Saga is the game that stands out the most in the franchise.
To put it simply, it is a more straightforward game than most of Shin Megami Tensei but then it also introduces many wonderful oddities. The first that you will notice is the main character designs. They look normal enough when in human form, but they are were-demons and they have an appetite for other demons that they can't ignore. And they have designs that contrast hardcore with established demons in Shin Megami Tensei (which make up most of the enemies in the game) as they use...... I really struggle how to describe it, but the designs feel both simple and very unique. And you can even go into a berserk mode during one phase of the Sun where your characters are stuck between forms.
Then we get to the plot. I don't really want to spoil anything, but it basically throws common sense away to a stronger extent than a game would expect to be and you can joke about the things that happen.
Digital Devil Saga isn't a game most people would say is the weirdest, as there are tons of horror games and walking simulators that can be considered more weird or unnerving, but the fact that this is a full featured game published by a big enough company and it is designed to an extent where it is a complete world, it just leaves a strong impression. And Shin Megami Tensei in general had already left a strong impression on me so I can imagine it being your first game being quite a crazy experience.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
