My fav so far is Brawl (I'm using Brawl+ to make it more like Melee) but I started with SSB64 and (somewhat) skipped Melee because I never had a GC.  I played SSB64 on my friends N64 since I opted for the PSX back in the day (damn you Squaresoft, now Square-Enix *shakes fist in air*).  When I got my Wii, I naturally got Brawl and I love it.  Favorite character in ALL the Smash Bros games?  Link.  Hands down.  I will always play Link no matter what.  He's on the top of my list of All Time Greatest Video Game Heroes.  Next favorite character would be Samus Aran (non-Zero Suit), followed by Mario, with Zelda/Shiek coming in at 4th.

I don't have a 3DS or Wii U yet, but when I do, I will be picking up the Wii U edition when it comes out, except that I'm really excited to try out the Wii Fit Trainer.  Her trailer, I thought, was awesome, even if just short.  It was funny and showed that she kicks some serious ass.  Also hyped about Rosalina (she's my fav driver in Mario Kart Wii..I dunno why) and, of course, Mega Man...still doesn't make up for the fact that Capcom is deliberately trying to destroy the Mega Man franchise, one of my all time favorite series, but I'll leave that rant for another time and thread.

All in all, I love the entire series, so far up to Brawl and I'm sure I'll love SSB4, but my fav so far is Brawl.  In Brawl, the only thing that bothers me is that they half-assed the victory themes for Zelda Team, Mario Team, Pit, Game & Watch (seriously, it sounds like Solid Snakes Victory Theme...wtf) and F-Zero.  Check out the Victory Themes for those characters in Melee (sans Pit since he wasn't in Melee).  So much better!  Also, I found that the 3DS version of SSB4, a lot of the music is rehashed from the Wii version.  Lazy or lazy?  You be the judge.

Brawl, 'cause it's the only one I've got. Haven't played it in a while, though...

My fave character might be King Dedede just because I love Waddle Dees. If not him, then Lucario all the way.

Also, can we just take a sec and talk about the soundtracks for the smash bros games?

Favorite is definitely the new 3DS one because it's a competitive masterpiece. They buffed the characters/attacks that needed work, nerfed what needed to be nerfed, found the perfect balance in melee-like gravity while taking out broken mechanics (points to wave-dashing)  AND IT HAS ONLINE 1v1 COMPETITIVE RANKED MATCH MAKING (that generally plays super fine unless you're fighting someone with dial-up connection). You can't possibly ask for anything better.

@wallace: THEY HAVE LIVE AND LEARN FROM SONIC ADVENTURE 2 BATTLE. HYPE OVERLOAD TOO MUCH!!!!

Live stream event is today also. Be sure to catch it. www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/?sid=social_nintendodirect_facebook 3 PM PDT/6PM EDT (2 hours and 30 minutes from the time of this post edit)

@djDarkX - A lot of the music I know was rehashed from Brawl. However, I didn't think Smash 4 could ever live up to the content Brawl put out, and if the musics good and there why not use it? The 3DS version I know is pretty bare bones. They can only fit so much stuff onto that tiny cartridge. The Wii U version should definitely have a lot more content.

You and I share the same opinion on this topic. Capcom are jerks, and Super Smash Brothers 4 is the best Mega Man game yet.

I can definitely say I can ask for the Wii U version with proper Gamecube controls. To me, the controls on the 3DS are infuriating. Not a fan of the for glory mode, wish they added in a battlefield type option along with a final destination option, but it's still a cool addition.

Regarding the soundtracks, they are absolutely amazing.

Exhibit AExhibit B, and Exhibit C

Oh and of course the Melee soundtrack.

Well, Melee had amazing music too, but Brawl didn't completely steal it.  Yeah, they have the Melee tracks in it for the Melee stages, but Brawl had its own music, and what great music it was...again, sans the victory themes I mentioned.  Perhaps the Wii U version will fix the rehashed tracks.  I hope so, anyway.

Yeah and Capcom can go eat a bag of d--actually, I'll stop there. lol

I do want to say that from what I've heard of the Smash 4 music, it's been pretty good. A Remixed version of N's theme, the new Smash 4 theme is great also, and of course the Mega Man music.

I've played competitive Smash on and off for almost 10 years now, so I really miss the advanced metagame (wave dashing, SHFFLC, edge hogging, etc.) but at least the ridiculous Brawl things like tripping have been removed. As a competitive player, I am obviously against all of the moves they have made to make the game more "fair" for various skill levels, but I understand that competitive Smash players make up a very small portion of the game sales, so they have to cater to the casual players (it's just good business). I'm still going to pick up the WiiU bundle when it comes out and probably have a good time with it.

Favourite so far is probably Project M, for competitive reasons listed above.

Started with N64, Played a little bit of Brawl and bought 3DS.

Now I"m going to hunt for another job and buy the Wii U Version.

My fave character so far is like literally tied between Zero Suit Samus, Little Mac, and Mii Gunner. customized a monster of a ZSS that with Regeneration and Heavy Attacks.

PM Me if you want to FC swap, I'll be buying Fantasy Life tonight and getting Omega Ruby on release date.

I always wanted to play this game competitively. However, I'm convinced my hands just aren't fast enough for the inputs required. I would like to get your opinion on customization. Do you think that if Nintendo ignores basic nerfs and buff patches, that the community could utilize these custom features (either to bring a character up in viability or down to earth)? This applies to either equips or special moves (i.e. changes Dr. Mario's cape to one of the other 3 options or giving him equips that make his speed faster). I think if controlled right, the game could be a lot more interesting to watch rather than to just play it on vanilla.

@AwesomeCool - I wish I had 6 more friends. T_T

@Goldstorm me too.

nintendo probably won't do balance patches.  I like the idea of players being able to pick custom moves (samus is actually good then, I mean have you seen samus's custom moves).

edit: passed the 500 matches mark :p

Started with Melee, loved it, played it a lot.

Got Brawl, loved it, played quite a bit but not nearly as much as Melee. Been meaning to go back to it for a while.

I'll get the 3DS version shortly after I get a 3DS (not sure when that will be), and Wii U version is in a similar boat...sort of?

I don't really have a "main", but some of my favorites are:

Falco

Zelda

Lucario

Dr. Mario

I'm really looking forward to playing as Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer, Palutena, and Mega Man!!

Also, that 50+ info trailer thing for the Wii U version!

8-player battles!

Mewtwo confirmation

Tons of stuff I'm forgetting!

Oh, some awesome looking new stages!

Great Cave Offensive. Kirby Super Star was one of my favorite games, and Great Cave Offensive was one of my favorite modes! The stage seems to do justice to it. A huge stage with so many different things, and...I love stages like this!

Donkey Kong Country Returns stage! It looks like one of the early jungle levels, a lot. There's two planes to fight on! You can use barrels to go to the background and back and fight on separate planes! It looks so different, and actually takes a mechanic from a source game and seems to implement it well!

...did anyone else love Bonus Battle from Melee? Probably my favorite mode. The Direct confirmed Coin Battle returning but I never liked Coin Battle. Why oh why can't Bonus Battle return...?

@Probotector 200X - I'm about the same, I picked up Dr. Mario in Melee and I'm super stoked he made it into Smash 4. My favorite part of the 50 things direct has to be the stage builder though. It's also confirmed through an IGN interview that you can download stages other people made over the internet. Sorry to say that I don't remember Bonus Melee though. :(

@Goldstorm: Somehow I manage to play Dr. Mario as a "troll" character. Wonder if I'll be able to do that in SSB4...

I'm excited for the stage builder return to, but I haven't found the time to watch the whole 50 things, so I didn't see it. Skimming through by previewing thumbnails I was able to see stuff that stuck out, like Great Cave Offensive stage, Ridley (he's so close to being playable, I don't understand...), Bowser Jr's. trailer, and 8-player smash. It's only half an hour long, I...can find the time...

Bonus Battle was the fourth mode of play in Melee. Stock, Time, Coin, and Bonus.

Melee gave you scores based on your KOs, Falls, and other things, like performing all variations of your normals, using lots of items, getting lots of air time, taunting a lot, taunting after KOing someone, getting a legendary Pokémon, all kinds of stuff. And the player with the highest score won. To me, it was the funnest mode and the most unique mode as well. Sad it was left out of Brawl and sad it doesn't seem to be returning to SSB4.

I played Smash since the N64 one. I skipped Melee because I didn't have a Gamecube, but my cousin did, and that was my favourite one. It just felt right for some reason. I really liked Roy too, Marth was a bit too plain for me, but in the end Marth was the one that stuck on T_T

My main's usually Kirby. Just can't go wrong with him.

Although once I got Brawl I started using Ike a lot too. He's heavy and hits hard, he was easy to pick up and keep using.

I'm glad the 3DS version came out. It used to be a game only played when my friends came over, but now we can all play after school. Finally, I get to play it more XD

I'm a little afraid of the stage builder... knowing how flipnote and swapnote went I think we will be getting a lot of dick stages.

But for personal use, it makes the stage builder in brawl look like crap, I really can't wait to use it.
