This is the first time I'm using this program, so forgive me if this answer seems obvious.

I'm trying to make one of my characters "swap" with another to become "Actor 1." Right now, it's currently remaining as "Actor 3" regardless of what I do.

Perhaps a better way to explain this is: How do you get a boy character and a girl character to both be the main player character, like in the Pokemon games? It swaps or replaces one character for another.

You don't swap the actor ids.

I haven't played the Pokemon games, so I don't know what you mean (which is why it's always better to explain the mechanic, rather than say "like XYZ game"). How many people are in your party - just the two of them? And you just want to swap them around? If so, do this in a Script command:

$game_party.swap_order(0,1)If you have more actors and you want to swap the positions of actors 1 and 3 in the lineup, do this in a Script command:

Code:
$game_party.swap_order($game_actors[1].index, $game_actors[2].index)
But unless you disable the Formation command in the menu, the player will be able to move them anywhere they want, anyway.
If you have two characters and you want the player to select one of them at the start of the game, you set your starting party to empty in the System tab of the database, then you do a Show Choices to let them select who to play as, and you do a Change Party Members to add whichever one they choose.

If you are trying to swap the character graphics you use the change actor graphic command on tab 3 of the event menu and just select the graphic you want to use.

I suppose my main problem is trying to get the NPCs to name the character correctly. For example, it still calls Actor 3 the name "Stephan" even though that name belongs to Actor 1. I could use \N[3] everywhere, but that wouldn't work for Actor 1... Does that make sense? Is there a way I can make the NPCs call out the name of the character in the lead?

I assume that when you say that it still calls Actor 3 the name "Stephan", you actually mean that you have typed that name everywhere in your text messages?

Anyway, if you want it to show the name of the character that is in the lead of the party when using show text then you just use \P[n] where n is the number of the position in the party (starting from 1).

When you are creating your show text in an event you can just hover your mouse over the text input area and it will pop up a display of all available commands that you can use.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
