So in the game I'm working on, I'm intending on having it where at a certain point you switch to a completely different character and play through events that happened before the main game takes place. I'm looking to have a good solid 30 mins or so where you play as this character, and keeping things consistent between the modern day story and this story, I don't want you the player to be able to pause and access an inventory that the person you're controlling shouldn't have any access to. I'd prefer to still keep a pause screen with an accessible inventory, but I don't know if what I'm planning on doing would work without some form of script writing (which I don't know how to do)
