Developed with RPG Maker MV

Swim Racer X is a top down exploration based RPG where your characters will engage in turn based style combat against land dwelling creatures as well as a turn based swim events. The game has a theme of competitive swimming within a fantasy world.
Items and equipment can be bought, sold, and found along the way to increase character abilities and will make tough battles manageable. There are no random encounters and all enemies will be encountered on screen during game play. There are many optional bosses and side quests as well as branching paths in the story however the main story is easy to access and follow by navigating the character toward the bobbing quest arrows. The game can be completed without even having to read and is heavily voice acted in the most current version.

Additional details:
1. Most NPC's say different things if you talk to them twice or if you have certain players in your party or if you've gone further in the game's story.
2. In the first town your choices determine whether or not up to 3 secret characters will join later.
3. "Unbeatable" fights can actually be beaten and have alternate story paths.
4. All the player characters are friends but every player character pairs up with another as a "best friend" and every character secretly hates another player character.
5. My game is small numbers meaning hitting for 500 is a huge deal. Shortly after the concert you get control of the Sub-Party of lesser played characters. There's a storm so they all stay in and play video games. I have a parody MMO the character's play called Phial Phantasy VR Online
6. There's an unfinished Anime Convention the characters can go to... It's gonna be painfully accurate to the actual experience

I recorded a playthrough of the first island with minimal secret hunting. I figured it's easier to watch then play so this would be a good way to get a feel for my game without investing much effort... Unless it becomes something you really want to play! Cause it starts going places.

Dutchpowercreations continues his longplay of Swim Racer X!!! He makes it through the zombie survival part and into Afghanistan on this playthrough. So far a very positive review!

Dutchpowercreations almost finishes Swim Racer X!!! He makes it to a possible ending but fails at the boss and must continue the story onward.

Hey there I've just been playing your game and thought I would give some feedback. First off I'm not much into swimming so I may not be your target audience but it sounded interesting non the less. I'm not going to talk about how I would do things just things that may be issues or things I like. I only played to the part where the albatross attacks the giant crab, well the swim after that.

I really love the maps, there's something pleasingly old school about them while having modern aspects. I really like how you did the t.v.s in the area before the crab fight, cool stuff. Also the some of the other unique things you did like the showers and hidden rooms. Seeing the dog in the face shots really started to grow on me as well, now I want to play with the dog. I also really liked the idea of putting the statues on the walls that you can see while indoors, it added a nice effect. The voice acting was a very nice surprise as well, it was enjoyable to listen to.

Over all what I saw was pretty well done, no glaring errors, no big bugs. The swimming thing is interesting to, I didn't quite know what to expect there but it's a cool system. I only noticed a few things that may be issues, nothing major at all. First the mirror event in the old church where you admire yourself. the event is clickable from which ever way you're facing, I know that bugs some people, may want to move it to where you have to be looking at the mirror. Next you can walk over the guy in clays room. I'm not sure if that is intended or not but it seemed a little odd. Also the black text is generally ok but there are some spots it can be very hard to see when it blends into the background.

All those are pretty minor, there is one thing I would consider a bigger issue the size of the game is pretty big for an early project. That can be off putting to people and make them decide not to download it to try. I took a little look around in the files and it seems like there may be a lot of extra stuff that doesn't need to be there. Also when you click exclude unused files when you're deploying the game there is a lot of unneeded elements still copied over, like animations and especially sound files, which really up the game size, a lot of those can generally be removed. I just personally got my project down to 85 mb which kind of blows my mind because there is quite a lot of content in there but I've really been doing everything I can to reduce size.

All in all I enjoyed the game and it sounds like there is still quite a lot I haven't seen yet. The size issue at least isn't a game play issue or anything and although I don't know a ton about competitive swimming I still had fun. Keep up the good work.

That's amazing! Thank you for your playthrough! I just acquired all the artwork and software for visual novel maker! I plan to remake a lot of the dialog so it's presented in this format, also I'm going FULLY voice acted instead of partially like I have now! The memory saving suggestion will be huge for that!

Oh dang I didn't think about the size of your game and the voice acting. That probably really adds up but is definitely worth it. Still there is a lot of other things that can be done to help with the size thing. Sounds like you have some great things planned for the game I look forward to seeing how it all goes. You have a great start for sure. One thing I just thought of that you may be interested in before I go. There is a web site I use to compress image files that greatly reduces the memory size with pretty much unnoticeable change to the image quality. There are programs you can get that will do it to but may want to start with the website and see what you think, I'll leave a link to it if you decide to check it out.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
