Hi guys,

I've spent about 40 minutes on this forum looking for the answer to this question, to no avail, I have also been on YouTube looking for tutorials, but to no avail.

I have an entire 5 days RPG Maker MV experience behind me - this equates to 5 whole days of RPG Maker experience full stop.

Excuse my lack of terminology, but this is what I would like:

I am not a fan of those - umm.. I suppose I would call them Pokemon battle scenarios.. the cut scene, you know the ones - I press defend, the enemy attack, we take turns etc etc - someone dies - probably me, because I didn't have the magic elf milk spell This is not the type of game I wish to create.

I am more of a Zelda style fan. I press a button and swing a sword. This sword inflicts damage on NPC's. No cut scene, no battle engine. All of this takes place on the ground, in a dungeon, outside the inn, in some old dears house.. you know the drill.

I've worked out how to make NPCs inflict damage on touch - I am happy with the way I have done this, but do you think I know how to kick him back? Nope.

Yes, before you all inform me I will need new sprites etc, I am aware of this.

I cannot find anything about making this type of RPG action in RPG Maker MV.

I was tempted into this as 'even a child could use it' - I'm not a child, I'm willing to do my research etc, but this I cannot find.

Quests and events and switches etc I have managed to pretty much get to grips with in my 5 epic days of RPG Maker, but swinging a sword, firing a bow, things like this, it seems are well beyond me.

I hope my query makes sense to someone out there. A veteran. Someone who has done at least 7 days. I trust you.

Thanks!

There are terms for these battle systems.

RPG Maker uses a front view, as well as side view turn based battle system. Zelda uses an action battle system. Since MV is brand spanking new, no one has created an ABS plugin yet (that I know of), but I'm sure there will. You just need to give it some time.

Eventing could be possible, but only if you're a veteran with RPG Maker in general, and I still wouldn't recommend it.

Was about to post something to the same degree as Celianna, but she got here before me. lol

It's possible, as she says, through eventing, but you might be better off asking for someone to make a plugin for it or making it in IG Maker.  There's even bundled graphics in the style of Legend of Zelda with it and tutorials on making such a game.  I'd check it out if RM wouldn't help you achieve your goal.

The pair of you are heroes.

I don't wish to make / remake / clone or emulate Zelda, it was just an example of the battle system or "ABS" ;) I was interested in!

Cheers guys.

I've got a tonne more - well, like 2 questions but I know what forum folk are like. They be all "you can't post that here, post in a new thread" etc, but because I am new I am restricted in the number of posts I have... so a quick cheeky question, falling off an edge into a void and dying - such as in a dungeon... is this doable in MV's purchased state?

Thanks :)

As for additional info about action battle systems: For ace, there were four or five different ABS scripts available after one or two years of work, you might find them referenced on this board as Saphire, Pearl, XAS (I don't remember the other names at the moment).

So yes, there is interest and you can expect to get such plugins at some time - but writing an ABS script or plugin is one of the most complex scripts, so it'll take several months at minimum before one will become available.

I suggest you spend that time with a tutorial project to learn and train the rest of the editor and database.

The link in my signature (starting point) will guide you trhough the most important tutorials for Ace (and everything above script/plugin level is identical for Ace and MV, so you can follow them with MV as well).

By my estimate you'll need a month just to work through these tutorials - by then you might see the first "in development" of an ABS plugin.

I'm still fairly new to the program myself, but what you're describing should be possible with a simple event on the map. Just tried making one myself and it seemed to work. I did Trigger: Touch, and Priority : Below characters. Ran the game and stepped on it and it played the message and animation I set then went to game over screen like I wanted.

Personally, I'm just not sure why anyone would buy a product as part of an established franchise, specifically tailored towards jrpg turn based battle systems, within a week of it's release and expect to be able to do something so completely out of place for that product.  RPG Maker games are historically turn based.  It's great that some people are able to re-vamp the entire battle system with something completely different, but what I don;t understand, why aren't they using a general game engine for that?  Preferably one geared towards that specific genre. IG Maker, by the same company as who makes RPG Maker, was created for the very thing you want to create.  It's like me buying a car, and stripping it out entirely, cutting down the body to try and make a motorcycle out of it.  But hey, anyone is entitled to do whatever they want, but it just seems odd to me.

Wait a year or two, and somebody will have done it...

RPG Maker is esentially this:

A) A tile map editor

B) A cutscene maker through use of placeable events

C) rpg system

It's more for people who want to tell stories.

If you use Game Maker you already have a tile map editor...making what you're talking about is seriously possible and you've got like a thousand tutorials on Youtube so ....yeah...

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
