Sylvant is a project of mine that I started at the beginning of the year to see what kind of game I could make only using RTP graphics. It's grown a lot since then and is now over halfway to completion.
Story:
On the small planet of Orionis lies a kingdom, one that has been blessed for many decades. It's people enjoy lives of peace and prosperity. That same prosperity, however, cannot last forever. It's started to be noticed that the land is slowly going into decline. Harvests are poor, monsters are appearing; the ocean, once teeming with fish, now provides hardly a nibble. Severe storms also plague the kingdom. Many say that the decline is a curse, a curse from the Goddess Xeria whom the late king turned away from.
The story you are about to venture into is one that tells of the kingdom's steady decline, and the hope to save it. That kingdom... is Sylvant.
Enter Luke, the son of a local farmer, he wishes nothing more than to travel the world and practice his sword technique. His wish is granted one day when a mysterious airship falls from the sky during a storm into the nearby forest. There, he meets a girl named Chara, who tells him that she comes from a tribe of people heard of only in fairy tales. Together, they end up agreeing to help Sylvant's queen thwart her son's participation in dark arts. This is only the beginning, however, as the party and the player slowly start to find out how deep the threat to Sylvant runs...
Characters:
Luke resides in the small Temnat Village with his father. There they have a small farm to provide their livelihood. He, however, doesn't enjoy the life of a farmer, and spends his days practicing his swordplay with the hope to one day travel the world. Rumor also has it that he's a fanatic for stuffed animals plushies. Luke is the primary warrior of the group and as such, has a lower speed in battle, yet makes up for it with his powerful sword skills. Later on, he'll be able to provide offensive and defensive buffs to other party members.
Chara is a member of the Zavi tribe, a highly technologically advanced tribe of people only thought of as a fairy tale by the rest of the world. She meets Luke when her airship crashes during a storm in the middle of the night. She's extremely fond of cats and will make conversation with them when interacted with and most of the time she'll give them her own personal name, despite Luke's objections. Chara wields a dagger in battle which makes for lowered attack, but is counteracted by higher speed and her ability to use wind magic. She is also highly resistant to the wind element, and later on can provide speed buffs to herself and other party members.
Nicolette joins the party when the queen of Sylvant appoints her to help Luke and Chara on their journey. She is a member of Sylvant's royal mages, and thus, is a powerful magic user. She tends to joke around and possesses a carefree and outgoing personality. Nicolette uses a variety of spells in her arsenal that grow over time, and has the largest mana pool in the party. She can also heal others and herself inside and outside of battle... provided she has the mana to do so.
Elise is a young girl who lives in the secluded Silie Village within the forest of the same name. She loves animals and nature, and has even befriended one of the local sylph. Elise is young and nimble and holds the highest base speed of the party. She uses her quick claws to attack, and can call on her animal friends for assistance.
Short for Automated Defensive Distribution Intelligence Entity, Addie is an automatron created by the Zavi tribe. Addie's main role is support and provides the party with different buffs, heals, and can even revive fallen allies. It's no stranger to damage either and can deal out heavy damage at the cost of many technical points.
Screenshots:
*Note: As this game is currently in development, screenshots are subject to change. They do not represent how the final game will appear. The lighting in the last three pictures is not implemented in the current demo.
Features:
-A revamped story adds more depth to the game and the player soon realizes that the story they've been lead to believe, doesn't quite add up with what's really happening.
-World interaction provides most of the lore in Sylvant. Party members will bring up dialogue when interacting with different objects in the world, and NPCs often change their dialogue based on the player's progression in the story. (Only partway implemented in the current demo)
-Skits appear when the player meets certain criteria throughout the game. These consist of conversations between party members that provide backstory, explain situations, or are just in for some good old comic relief. (Not implemented in the current demo)
-Grinding really sucks when you're looking to get to the meat and bones of the story. Sylvant has been balanced in such a way that a new area is always hard to begin with, but just normally progressing through the area will be enough to satisfy leveling. This has taken into account different playstyles, but consistently running from encounters will assure that you'll be underleveled.
Greenlight:
The new Greenlight campaign has currently not started. More information will be available at a later date.
Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
