With all the D&D talk recently, what ONLINE tabletop programs have you used, or tried.
MekWars (FREE):
If you like battletech, I love the Mekwars program (found on sourceforge). It's a java runtime environment program that has many rulebooks for battletech available, many canon preamade fmech files.
There are a few ways to play:
1) Single game host: one player hosts a game and other players join directly.
2) Server Run: One person runs server files, and players join via client files. In this, the server can set up a battle map, battle missions with varried rules and rewards (with SOL clan as a trainee group), Clans (after completing training in SOL) with ranks, hangers, resource management, exhangable pilots, unit repair, a black market option, mutiple text chat channels (all, Role Play, clan, server, updates). Built in outside roll options.
Game Table (FREE):
A more open tabletop for RPGs. Customizable environment levels, and easy image input for custom content. Again, Java Runtime Environment run. Custom rolls and chat window provided.
Fantasy Grounds ($$$ per client per content, more for GMs):
A lot of content, if you have the money, from multiple RPG programs.
Can be a littple bit of a resource hog, especially for older computers. Bigger screens are better as well since you will have mutiple layers of images clouding the screen. Custom rolls and chat window provided. Login on their servers required for multiplayer online.
Revolution Virtual Playspace ($19.99 US on steam):
This is fairly new, and i've been enjoying messing with it. They even use the fantasy images by Jesse-PV GAMES for the fantasy battlers. They also modern battle, mech battle, space battle, super hero sets available. You can make maps hex or square, and the ficures are resizable depending on how you want to play it. Customizable from charcater sheets, items, drops, rules and battle rules, diologue, etc..
For the most part, I wont use fantasy grounds since it ruined my older video drivers, but maybe when I update it later. Otherwise, I use GameTable and MekWars quite a bit, even occasionally hosting servers for group play for a week or so of battletech.
