Hi all, I have a question after using the awesome LeTBS and learning about the other popular tactical battle system plugins: is there one that can make it so each grid has six adjacent grids, instead of four? (Six makes more sense for my game than four because with four grids the diagonal adjacent ones have different distance to the center grid than the direct adjacent ones.).
I know hexagons probably won't fit nicely because the map is created with squares tiles, but something like in the game "Romance Of Three Kingdom 11" looks much more possible, where you can see in the picture below, it's still based on square tiles but every two rows has half-a-grid offset so that each grid now has six adjacent grids.

Not knowing enough how the existing TBS plugins work behind the scenes, I'm not sure how hard it would be to make it happen, or even, if there is already something that does it. I haven't looked into Japanese forums because of languages. If what I'm describing makes sense, does anyone know if there's anything that can get me to it?
Thanks in advance!

extremely bad idea, and in the wrong forum section - this is for art resource requests, you need to go in plugin requests.

That said, TBS are probably THE most complex things to program because of the required map-based AI the enemies need (to decide where to go and where to attack).
And your request would require changing the map system, making any previous AI that might have been available for the old grid absolutely useless, in addition to requiring the entire engine map system to be reprogrammed (with the regular map the TBS could simply use that one.

You have a chance if there is any TBS in current developing and the programmer might decide to change the map, but as a free request from ground up - zero chance.
What you're talking about would probably require a good programmer a year to work on.

I've moved this thread to Plugin Requests. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

So sorry about that, I didn't realize Resource Requests is only for art resource... Thanks @slimmmeiske2 for moving it to the right section.

I agree TBS is extremely complex, and I have no idea how hard it would be to change the battle map system with this "half-a-grid offset" idea, but I think it might not be as bad for the AI because (naively) once the distance calculation algorithm and the target selection algorithm are updated the AI behavior code should still work. (I don't mean to be ignorant here but just trying to imagine how it would work based on my limited experience).

You have a chance if there is any TBS in current developing and the programmer might decide to change the map, but as a free request from ground up - zero chance.
That absolutely makes sense. I wanted to ask if there's any existing plugin that I missed that's already able to do this, but now that I think of it, it's too general a question to ask here and maybe it's a better idea to post the question in threads like Lecode Tactical Battle System 0.77.2B where the discussions are specific to the plugin.

Again, thanks for the help! I'll keep looking.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
