Tale of the Stars
Tale of the Stars is an Freeroam RPG that I am developing in RPG Maker VXAce. My idea behind this game is that it is the RPG that I've always wanted. And I'm sure that people here share the same or some of the same interests as me in an RPG. Tales of the Stars is still in very early development, though there is a small playable demo that showcases a bit of what it is going for. It is also VERY heavy on the Role Playing aspect of an RPG. You play a created character. Their skill and appearance are up to you and how they grow, develop, and act in the world is also up to you and the world in respond as such. Tale of the Stars is free to play and will ALWAYS be free to play.
DEMO (Very Early) (Last Updated June 12th 2015)
This Demo is VERY early in development. Expect spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, bugs and missing graphics. There isn't much beyond the tutorial dungeon, but it showcases most of the implemented features. You can explore a bit, but there is not much out there at the moment.
The World
Tale of the Stars takes place in a kingdom known as High Rock. It is a temperate location with forests and open plains. It is split into five dukedoms Dragon Vale, North Ridge, Moon Watch, Lords Way, and Riverside. It is home to eight villages and towns. High Rock City, Alistair, Vestar, Greenhorn, Varock, Marystead, Riverbridge, and Niris. High Rock is under the watchful eyes of Rex Julius Gellen, Regina Sansa Gellen and it's four Dukes. Even so, there is still a small world of crime and piracy.
The Story
"I'm glad you could meet me here. I apologize for the location. But no prying ears may hear this conversation we are about to have. A friend of mine. Julius Gellen was murdered. Yes. Rex Gellen of High Rock. I only received a letter about it a few hours ago. He was stabbed in his sleep with the numeral I carved into his forhead. This is very disturbing to me. That is all that was included in the letter. What I am about to ask you is no order of the Emperor. But a request of a close and dear friend. I want you to find who killed Julius and assassinate them."
You are the Royal Guard and a very close friend of the Emperor, Killikan Valain. One night he calls you to the dungeons with the disturbing news that Rex Gellen of High Rock was murdered. He tasks you to find out who murdered him and assassinate them. Your trip to High Rock was interrupted and a rough encounter has left you at death's door. However, it was not your time to die. The gods have given you another chance to live and informed you of a power you have deep within you. Instead of destiny controlling your fate, you are in control of your fate. You can shape how you grow and develop and your future is uncertain. Whether this is related to your mission or not, you do not know. All you know is that it gives you a fighting edge for whatever may come.
Implemented Features
Character Creation
You will be able to create your own character's appearance with 3 simple options. Gender, Race, and Type. There are two genders (obviously), male and female. Gender makes no difference in your character's skills and abilities. But gender will make NPCs react differently towards you, either through small dialogue changes or by making them think differently about you. There are also four races to choose from. Vulpen, Lepen, Imp, and Elven.
Elves are humanoid beings with pointed ears. They are well rounded and are good in about any situation.
Vulpen are a race of bipedal foxes. They are much stronger and hardier than the other races and make for good warriors.
Lepen are a race of bipedal rabbits. They are much faster and agile than the other races and make for good rogues.
Imps are small winged creatures. They have a natural attunment to the magical arts making them good mages.
Control Your Dialogue
You have full control over what you say in response to NPCs. They respond back and you can even influence they disposition towards either for better or for worse. Make friends, make enemies, watch as they respond differently and act differently around you.
There is also the option of intimidating or persuading those into seeing things your way. Whether it is successful or not depends on your characters abiliities.
Simple Lock Picking and Trap Removal
So long as you have the tools and the appropriate skills, you may pick locks. However, they may be trapped. Checking for traps is something that you must never forget. However, if you are not skilled in finding traps, then you may be given incorrect information. Once a trap has been removed, the lock can be picked safely. If you lack the finesse to accomplish these tasks, then brute force entry is always an option.
Role Playing Based Weaponry
Skill Progression
There are many skills including one for each of the 22 weapon types that will show how good your character is at preforming these tasks. They increase in level by being used, so to increase lock picking, get out there and pick locks.
Open World Exploration
The kingdom of High Rock is open for you to explore with many dungeons, landmarks, and locations to visit. You way can be found easily by opening an easy to access map. On the map, it is divided into rectangle sections. Each of those sections is a separate map and the next map can moved to by walking to the edge. What will you find out there?
Planned Features
Quest Cards and Way Points to keep you on track. Way Points will never reveal hidden or secret objectives. (it's half there already)
Guilds
Join either the Mages Guild, the Fighters Guild or the Thieves Guild and enjoy their own line of quests and stories.
Side Quests
Want to take a break from finding the Rex's murderer? Help some of the locals out with their problems.
Home Ownership
Inns can get pricey. So why not own a home? Somewhere safe you can sit down and relax in.
Companions
Adventuring alone can get stale. So why not bring along a friend? Or perhaps a pet?
Marriage
Specific marriage NPCs which will open further dialogue and personal stories.
Factions
Groups of individuals each with their own faction standing which influences NPC disposition. Join a family and change your last name.
Fast Travel
Walking between locations takes time. So why not pay someone to take you there for you.
And More
More features that are either too small to mention by name or I have forgotten about

Weapons are the extension of your character's abilities. There is no one ultimate weapon. Smaller and weaker weapons are easier to use, but stronger and heavier weapons will weigh you down and make you slower.
There are 22 different weapon types, 6 different materials, 3 different attack types, and 2 different weapon based ailments.
The weapon types are Daggers, Straight Swords, Greatswords, Ultra Greatswords, Curved Swords, Lepen Swords, Piercing Swords, Axes, Great Axes, Hammers, Great Hammers, Fists, Spears, Halberds, Lances, Reapers, Twinblades, Whips, Bows, Great Bows, Crossbows, and Staves.
The materials are Rusted, Iron, Steel, Silver, Shade, and Meteor.
The attack types are Slashing, Piercing, and Bashing.
The ailments are Bleed and Dazed.
The combination of attack type, material, ailment, and your character's abilities will be the deciding factor of how a battle will pan out. Not the weapon itself. Find a weapon you like and stick with it. However, that weapon may not be good in all situations. So having a couple of backup weapons is a good idea.

Trees Getting In The WaySometimes, depending on where you stand when transferring maps on the overworld, you will spawn inside of a tree. This is because the trees are too close to the edge. Will be removed in next update.
Opening the Map Twice
Once you open your world map, you can do it a second time while it's open. Will be removed in next update.
Town and Overworld Music Changes Abruptly
I forgot to add a fade
