"All seek inner peace out of life, though the path and what exactly that peace details is something only we can decide for ourselves. Regardless if this be of the Divine or otherwise, all life strives towards an end that those who live might deem significant." ~ Vrenmasil

The great hunger of the Abyss has finally been sated, but still not all is well.

Conflicts of divine ideology flare up once more in a magnitude not felt by the world since the collapse of the holy city. The world has been born twice over since then, but the scars of the past have yet to be mended. The Night Blade - a relic of the Dark that has tasted the blood of the Goddess Nyfrulia - has once again fallen into mortal hands. With it, a shadow spreads over a nefarious but otherwise visionless empire, its regiment reforged by the rise of a usurper whose true nature can only be attributed to his crimson eyes.

Fear being pivotal to his sovereignty, his reign has seen the village of Hronulum being cast into the depths of the sea and anyone who might oppose his order - Night Blades or otherwise - being made an example of through ghastly means of execution. Many seek to claim this man's life if nothing else than for the greater good of humanity, but justice eludes humanity's grasp and so the world remains lost in shadow...

What would drive a man to such ends, where even those who swear allegiance to him would rather him dead? Does he know the pain he's causing with his own existence? Is it possible that he feels the way they do but is too lost to know freedom? Only the crimson eyes can see.

What To Expect:

Engrossing History:
Extensive effort has been put forward to fully realize the history of Eylin and how it affects the time in which the player engages in shaping its future. Not only will you see it play out in real time, but those who go the extra mile to explore will discover special Mementos that open the door to fully interactive campaigns that further flesh out how the world has come to the modern day. Engage with the heroes and villains of history and become educated on the who's, where's and why's of Eylin.

Fort.png

Strategic Combat: No matter your play style, all measures of overcoming your foes have been improved to their fullest - making all choices not just effective but engaging, too! Every elemental class comes tied with its own statuses that shape the flow of battle, and to go with this magical system are equally robust melee specializations. Each weapon has specific abilities inherent to their class, and with every character capable of dual wielding, the customization possibilities are vast. Even shields can be dual wielded as weapons for those who prefer a "tanking" class!

GSBattle.png

Characterization Aplenty: To go with all the ways to explore and master the world of Eylin is a cast of protagonists and antagonists with their own motivations that develop throughout the game. From the very beginning, you're introduced to those who dream of a new life. As your understanding of each character expands, so does their relations to each other. By the end of the Tale, no one is as they started - all organically affected by the wages of everyday life.

Eclipse.png

Riches Abound: Hidden throughout the world are many treasures, and some require great effort to obtain. Not only will you encounter many traditional treasure chests, but exploration of the countryside will yield fruits from a gladiatorial arena, a shady treasure collector and his riddling runes, a guild of fisherman and the hidden wealth of those who have separated themselves from a world of endless war. Wherever you go, there is always something to be found - even beyond the reaches of mortality.

I remember seeing about this game years ago while I browsed RMN for stuff to play.

This is proof that if you don't give up, eventually with the will to do so, things will get finished.

@Corfaisus Can you please add the expected price upon release? Thanks.

Consider it done. The price is at the bottom of the post.

Oh yes. The wild thing is that I don't even really consider it something that I accomplished but that it found me and I simply put it into action. The story belongs to the world, and I'm as much a consumer of it as any of you. Countless days I would wait for inspiration and meaning, and after 15 years, it wrote itself. I'm discovering deeper meaning even today.

If I can take a moment, I just want to say - from the bottom of my heart - "thank you" to all who have given my game a chance. It really means a lot to me to see that people are playing and enjoying what I've put over half my life into. I even got a private message from someone who's already halfway through the game and who's put a significant amount of time striving for glory in the gladiatorial arena! Very cool!

If any of these people are you, you've made a difference in my life. In the words of Ready Player One's James Halliday and tens of thousands of people who've worked tireless hours to bring us joy since the dawn of our medium: "Thanks for playing my game."

Hey, screenshots and mapping looks great!

Did you make the maps with only the RM2K3 RTP or did you use some additional material or edits?

All of it is the RM2k/3 RTP in some way, shape or form. I've made some small changes in Irfanview and MS-Paint in order to get the desired effect and rearranged many of the tiles to get the most out of each tileset. Wherever the limitation came into effect, I used commands such as the 'Set Event Location' to place two events on the same tile in order to fully realize each locale and established other specialized sprite sheets with common animations among other larger sprites. If I ended up needing more layers than was native to RPG Maker 2003, I found my ways.

Like, take the screenshot below for example: just below the blue roofing of the decorative towers are two events and an upper layer tile placed on top of each other. It's small attention to detail like this that I exercised to the fullest in my maps because I wanted to show that RTP could be used well.EC.png

Nice work.

I'm not someone who has time to play games anymore, but I do watch a let's play on your game through YouTube while commuting to work and I'm enjoying it (I know that doesn't really benefit you with any money, but still, thought you wanted to know).

Another question for you since you put your game on STEAM. Did you have to go though any special registration with RMW/Enterbrain/Kadokawa before you were allowed to sell your game?
I'm asking because I want to sell an RM2K3 game too and the EULA does mention something about the need to register the product?

I didn't have to go through any special registration in order to sell my game on Steam. To the extent of my knowledge, as long as you have a legally purchased copy of RPG Maker 2003, the EULA allows you to use it and its resources for commercial purposes. Few games do get the blessing of Degica to be published under their brand (OneShot, for example, is registered under Degica), but it's by no means necessary. A colleague of mine developed and self-published their own game, Cope Island: Adrift, and Ara Fell by Badluck was an RPG Maker 2003 game way back in the old days and was one up until it got its modern re-release as a Unity game on Steam and the Nintendo Switch. After having spoken with him, he more or less got the greenlight from Mac & Blu to use their REFMAP material for his game.

I also made use of many of the Runtime Packages throughout the series to realize Tales from Zilmurik and made due diligence to purchase them all under my Steam account for the sake of documentation, though I already had purchased RPG Maker VX Ace through rpgmakerweb.com a while before.

A new build of the game has been submitted that includes fixes for all the bugs Euphoniac had discovered.

Re-opening this thread now that a little squabble has been resolved (with several messages removed).

Feel free to try out and talk about Tales of Zilmurik here - just don't bring in any drama from other platforms. Thanks!

I'm working on the next big patch, so I want to hear from you all what you would like to see included in the game. So far the plans are to implement:

1. Random loot for crates, barrels, pots, etc. to give value to searching them instead of merely providing flavor text. Each type of container will drop specific loot (crates = equipment, barrels = healing, pots = gold) Anything without extra goodies (or having received them) will result in flavor text. Existing chests will have their loot altered to give something more meaty, or will provide multiple types of loot, such as equipment and gold.

Hello. I think I'm pretty stuck right now and would require some help if possible. I've been told to investigate a voice in the mountain to the west, which I have to guess it is Mount Ronmrilus, but I pretty much took all of the items I could find, but I didn't find anything of value that would continue the main story. Does anyone know if I'm in the right place or if I'm missing a secret entrance or something?

You asked the exact same question on Steam. I don't understand why you asked this question here again after Corfaisus had already given you a reply on Steam (something about the ice mountains to the north of the Elven Capital).

The mountains being spoken of are the ice mountains to the north of the Elven Capital. When you get close to them, the voice that spoke to you in Lefarnius causes a bridge to appear that you can use to access the Whispering Mountains.

It's a great game. I know some dislike the use of RTP but if anything I consider this a poster child for what the RTP can do, and particularly how good the original rm2k era graphics were. This is the sort of game that, were Rm2k still the main product, EB would be shipping with the software as an example of what can be done with the software.

Hey, I posted an actual plugin. Like, whoa.
I love this job (as a programmer), coding is fun sometimes. It is just the deadline that needs to CHILL.
Best explanation of "Confirmation Bias": "If you go looking for a fight, you will always find one". If you always look for something, you'll find it. Negativity or Positivity. This is just a reminder to spend time looking for some Positivity today. :D Ya'll have earned it and deserve it.
And now all my attacking skills suddenly heal instead of doing damage...Even kills and revives. Because ofc they do xD
