"Tales of Vogar - Lost Descendants" is set in the kingdom of Vogar, a once beautiful and thriving realm now filled with fear and despair. When Vogar was invaded by its neighbor, the empire of Limor, the resulting war brought ravage and devastation that surpassed everyone’s worst nightmares.
However, for people of Vogar not all hope is lost yet. There are whispers and rumors that descendants of the royal family might still be alive...

To reclaim their homeland, they need to form an army of the bold souls willing to join them, all while escaping Alastar’s attention. On their journey, they will meet familiar faces from the days of their childhood as well as new allies tired of the Limorian oppression.
However, they know that they won’t prevail against the magician’s wrath even if they could field the largest army Vogar had ever seen. Their hope rests on recent magical outbursts Ascan has experienced – and the persistent legends of the most powerful magic known to the realm, a force called “Ascension”. With it, they could shift the tide. But they are not the only ones on the hunt for this mystery…

The three main playable characters are AscanAscan.png, a magically gifted descendant of the royal family, his brother GlenGlen.png, a rather impulsive fellow with his own sense of humor and JaneJane.png, a warmhearted healer who keeps looking for an excuse to escape her home town, as she would love nothing more than to explore the world.

Opposing them is the ruler of the enemy empire of Limor, the sinister magician Alastar. No one had ever heard of him until about a year before the war, when the tension between the two countries was starting to rise… and the wizard emerged from the shadows to conquer the throne. His motives and ambitions are unknown, but horrifying tales of his boundless fury are being told even in faraway lands.

While I beat the game for a while, the best thing for now is the story,
and the challenging battles (which is not perfect balanced yet). but
all battles are doable.

if you are up for the story and adventure, try this game and when able,
give your feedback too, as it can help the dev more to improve this
amazing story :)

Thanks for your kind feedback. Gotta give you public credit too: You are the first beta tester that was able to win a (in my opinion) unwinable fight :D Even I myself was not able to pull that off. Big kudos for that

Thanks to the both of you for showing interest in beta testing ToV. Currently all beta spots are filled but if a new one becomes available, I'll make sure to send you a message! :)

Game update:
Game progresses as planned. By now beta playthroughs only show 1-2 bugs, mostly not game breaking. Balancing is good and the story progresses - final chapter is almost finished. As of right now nothing speaks against a release in Q2. Getting super excited!!

I just wanted to give a little update for the game! The release is still scheduled for Q2, probably beginning of May. The work on the final chapter is almost done. All that is left to do is the final boss battle and the heartwarming or devastating ending - depending on the players choices.

My marketing still sucks, so if you are interested in helping me out in any way (reviewing the steam page, providing me with your experience on what worked on RPG Maker games marketing wise, etc.), feel free to contact me.

One thing that is very important (I heard) is the small steam capsule that is shown everywhere. Today I changed it and want to present the result. How do you like it? Anything you would add/change? Anything that bothers you? Happy to hear your thoughts :)

If you don't find any that reach out to you, why not try to reach out to youtubers or streamers that play rpg maker games?
Offer them a free copy or something like that if they at least try and review it. I don't know of any big ones sadly but there is a small community around those i heard about that might boost sales a bit if it turns out to be good.

I can think of 2 youtubers and one stramer who posts on yt on top of my head.

Maybe also make an rpgmaker.net page for your game. More visibility is always good.

I love the new logo with the characters which is more catching of
the players you have or meet :)

but keep it up, if you need a speedrunner for smooth game play,
tell me and I see what I can catch for you if there aren't any
game-breaking stuff.

but I wish you the best otherwise, the story is defnititly intresting though.

Oh I'm so excited and I really wanted to share this. The ending is going to be sooo cool. :D Depending on whom you choose for the final party, there are slight changes here and there. In this case, someone else might be doing the "heroic battlefield speech" if the character is not available... and it might not be as heroic ... ->->->->->wishlist wishlist. Thank you. Whop whop

I'm looking forward to playing the game in two and a half weeks. As a native German speaker that has played JRPGs for more than 30 years, JRPGs made by German developers failed to impress me in the past, but hopefully that's about to change.

One question: How exactly will the recruitment of base members and the custom final chapter work? Will I be able to recruit everyone so that I can make different decisions right before the final chapter? Or will recruitment be mutually exclusive (if you recruit A, you won't be able to recruit B, and vice versa) so that early choices already lock me out of certain endings? I really hope it's the former - the times during which I replayed dozens of hours to obtain different endings are long gone now. :D

By the way, don't forget to subscribe to your own game's Steam forum in order to receive notifications (about new forum threads/posts). Just because it's your own game doesn't mean you'll be notified about anything. ;) Also, speaking from experience, it will cost you a lot of (potential) customers if people think you don't tend to your own game's Steam forum section.

Heyhey! That sounds great, thank you. I hope the game will live up to your expectations :D

To your quesiton: I got inspired by mass effect for this one. So no, you don't have to decide early on. You will get to know the characters and then you have to decide in which area to use them. Endings will vary and characters may even die if you choose wrongly. Apart from the most obvious choice (putting everyone in the spot they are supposed to be), there might be some secret stuff as well, if you decide otherwise :)

I absolutely love the battle animations and character portraits. I'm a writer JUST beginning my journey on learning all this RPG maker/game dev stuff, so I have a long way to go, but I have some great stories to get out there.

Do you mind if I ask who did the artwork/sprites? Was it you?

I wish I did, but the battlers were made by Vibrato and the busts were made by a friend of mine - but she doesn't take requests anymore unfortunately. Got something like a "real life" I heard and is ... employed and stuff. :rolleyes:

Congratulations on your game's release! :)

May I ask another question while I'm at it? When looking at the promotional material (trailer, screenshots), I can't tell whether the game features random encounters or visible enemies, and in case of the latter, whether (and how) they regenerate or not. So how are enemy encounters handled in your game?

If you could find the time for a quick reply, I would be deeply grateful. Since I really like being able to grind, I hope you didn't choose non-regenerating visible enemies.

Someone in a facebook group just corrected something I said, by saying exactly what I said. The mind boggles.
Less than 20 tiles remain in Inside_B that I need some kind of analogue of in my in custom Inside_B, and a whole 39 tiles that I didn't use and can thus make my own custom tiles or my own flavors of from other tile sheets.
