Hello!

I'm looking for a basic script that allows me to add "titles" to my actors familiar to that of the Tales series.

I would be nice if this script could also edit their stats, but that's not a necessity.

Also, it needs to be compatible with Yanfly's Ace Engine. (Menu, Status, etc.)

Just allow me to have titles and allow me to change them through a character's status screen. (Or another, I won't be picky)

Please and thank you!

uhm, This is on the current first page of the scripts forums... http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/13640-tales-of-graces-title-system/

next time, you could at least try to look at even the first page... :)
Yeah, I've already found that one, but you see, it's not exaaactly what I'm looking for.

That one adds a lot of unnecessary things. I mean, I suppose I could use that one, but I've seen a few others somewhere out there.

But I'd prefer to not close this case just yet. ;)

Thank you though.

Maybe you could just turn off some of it...

but I've seen a few others somewhere out there.
and you can't use those too?

Btw, what features would the "titles" have? if it's just names, as Shaz said, why not just use nicknames?

:) I deleted that post when I looked at that script and saw how complicated it was, and assumed something much more detailed than a simple title was required.

well, I've "seen" some others out there, but I can't seem to find them anymore. :/

If I could find any of those, then I would definitely use one of them. (Sorry, I explained it weird.)

And THAT script has way too much to fiddle around with. I won't be able to have it look or function properly for me. There are way too many other things that I don't know how to work.

And I would be fine with just nicknames, but would I need a script to be able to go in a change nicknames as I please?

I can give an actor a nickname, but I want to be able to change it whenever I want as I please.

You can use the Call Script command.

Do you want YOU, the designer, to be able to change the titles during the game? Or do you want the PLAYER to be able to change them?

If YOU want to change them, you just use the Change Nickname command (bottom of second column on first tab of event commands).

If you want the PLAYER to choose their own title, create an additional actor who will never be in the party. Use the Name Input command (first column on third tab of event commands), select that actor, and specify how many characters you want them to use. After that, add a Call Script command (last command on third tab of event commands), and type this:

$game_actors[id1].nickname = $game_actors[id2].namewhere id1 is the actor id of the actor whose nickname you want to change, and id2 is the id of that additional actor who will never be in your party. If it goes over onto 2 lines, make sure the line break is after the = and before $game_actors[id2].name
When you ask for a script, it's always a good idea to describe exactly what you're after, instead of saying "like <this> game". If all you want is to be able to give your characters titles, and the script in the second post IS like the "Tales of" series, then what you REALLY want is VERY different to what you requested. And since I've never played that game, I would have no idea of how simple or complex that system is, and which of these solutions you're actually after.

I want to have a list of nicknames, that the PLAYER can acquire and use as they please.

I want to be able to change the title whenever I want, in the menu.

Just let me click on the title/nickname and have a list come up and use that one.

@Shaz, Also, that specific script is for ONE of the Tales games...It just so happens to be the ONE Tales game where the titles system is extremely complex.

I assure you, in most of the other games, it's incredibly basic.

Cimmantti, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

But that only illustrates the main point ;-)

Most of the people here will not have played even one of the games from the Tales series, so we can't know how complex their title systems are.

That's why all requesters should state a description of what they want instead of posting "like Game XYZ" - it'll make things easier for everyone.

This does not answer the question. The player ACQUIRING a title means the titles are already determined, not that the player actually gets to enter whatever title they want.

And when you say "I want to be able to change the title whenever I want," are you referring to yourself in the developer capacity, or as the player? And by "change the title" do you mean, again, choose from a preset list, or actually type in what you want the title to be?

Okay, sorry I am terrible at explaining things...

I is the Player.

The player can go into the status screen, click on "titles" or just on their title, the one they already have.

A list of titles should come up, and I, as the player, can go through and click the one I like and have that be their new nickname.

It doesn't have to look fancy or anything, I just want a visible list in which whoever is playing the game can ;pick the one they like.

And the titles can be acquired through various things and can be added with basic script calls.

Okay, this makes it clear that the player will never actually ENTER their own title - they will just select from a preset list.

Can you show some screenshots from the game in question, to illustrate how easy/complicated this needs to be? Also explain how you want to initially set up the titles, and make each title available to the different actors - will all actors have the same list of titles available, do you want it all done in the script via customization options, or via notes on the actor or class tabs? This will help whoever responds to your request build it in a way that's easiest for you to use.
