This was the idea. You play throughout the game as two characters and during battle when one isn’t knocked out, you have access to more abilities and options. When one IS knocked out, you have access to less abilities and options.
This incentivize keeping both party members alive since they depend on each other.
I also wanted a way where each individual can’t heal themselves but can heal their partner, again keeping the theme of dependency.

Is there a way to implement a battle system that only allows certain attacks and abilities when both party members are alive but blocks them out when one party member is dead? Along with the heal you, but not me premise?

Doesn't having more characters alive already gives more abilities and options by default? I'd just see it as a way to lose harder when one dies during battle and even less options would be available.
I don't seen the point to incentivise people to keep their characters alive, because that's already a basic part of every RPG experience that features a 2 or more playable characters.

'Game Mechancis Design' is for looking as aspects of game play at a more conceptual level. "How do I...?" (implementation) questions belong in the support forum for the engine you are using.

Unfortunately you do not tell us which engine it is, nor have you included that in the info under your avatar. Please post and say which engine you are using so that this can be moved.

Thanks.

Sorry, I thought I put MV engine in the tags.

What I’m going for is that certain abilities can only be used when both characters are alive. I think what you’re trying to say is having more characters alive automatically gives you more abilities but those are of the individual character. Not based on if both characters are alive on the field.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
