I am running rpg maker mv on OSX. Every time I try to test play the test play crashes. Either goes black or shuts down completely. only once or twice can I get it to do what I need.

RPG Maker MV is considered to be incompatible with MacOS as of Big Sur 11.0.

You may find workarounds (someone else on the forums was saying they were able to manually change some project files and get it to work), but this is generally expected behavior.

I'm running RPG Maker MV on MacOS Catalina, and it runs perfectly. Literally no problems with anything that weren't related to plugins (cannot determine property 'length' of undefined and stuff like that).

Because that one comes before Big Sur.

I know, it's just weird to me that it runs better on something older. It's the opposite of what I would expect.

It's explained to some degree in the article I linked. The newer versions of MacOS discontinued support for OpenGL, which is what MV uses for its graphics rendering.

It shouldn't really be contrary to your expectations if you consider it - there are many games and pieces of software that can't be run on current operating systems without editing or emulators. GOG (Good Old Games) is filled with them (as are a few shelves in my house :stickytongue:).

Mac just keeps getting more unique, and this causes compatibility issues. At the place where a person I know works, the place advises to refrain from updating so that all the needed applications work correctly. If something works, it works. Don't push it.

That's pretty common practice for computers in general. I've had many occasions where people jump on, say, the newest video card drivers and it breaks compatibility with their favorite game.

There's a thread going on today where it looks like the new MZ version is broken (at least for some people).

I've been thinking about doing a jokey submission for the Christmas jam in which, like a cartoon special where all the characters "play" a counterpart in A Christmas Carol, my MagiCats would each play a role from the C.A. Smith story The Coming of the White Worm, with Cyprian as Evagh, Rousalie as Dooni and so forth. But in the end, I figure all my development efforts should go toward the game proper.
