Hello.

In the opening cutscene in my game, the player is hanging out at a tavern.

Now since it's a tavern, there's obviously going to be some drunkards.

I made some dialogue for them, but it appears too quickly for that kind of engagement. In a real situation, which is commonly done in video games, a drunkard will stutter (which I have implemented) and speak  v e r y  s l o w l y.

So, I guess that brings up the question: Any way to make text appear slower? (Or do I need a script?)

Most Message System Scripts has the function to make slower text. I don't know if VX has it, but I know XP has. So if I were you, I would use a script for that.

You could always put a pause in between each individual character of the message by default. It's a bit messy, but it's still vanilla.

Something like this:

I'm \.d\.r\.u\.n\,k.
Note that the \. function makes the selected text wait 15 frames (1/4 of a second) before advancing, and that the \| function makes the selected text wait 60 frames (1 second) before advancing.

Mousing over the text area is beneficial to understanding how everything works. (Though, I myself was baffled and had to have someone explain to me how that stuff worked.) Try the different stuff out and see if you can come up with creative uses for them. Also, good luck with your game.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
