im trying to figure out how to make a text based interaction system. examples

http://youtu.be/4g54NRoheDU?t=10m15s

a royal knight challenges you to a duel in order to marry the kings daughter

. you type: I will kill you! in the name of the king! Npc: i will not fall easily! Have at me!

a village was recently attacked by bandits and kidnapped the women and children, and the village elder asks for your help

you type:worry not! i will save the women and children from those filthy bandits!

the letters in bold are the key terms that will determine the outcome of the situation.

can this be evented or scripted? im pretty sure it can be evented, right?

thx a bunch :)

To a certain extent, this is sort of possible using the Name Input command, but I don't think it gives you enough spaces to type a whole sentence (correct me if I am wrong).

A script though could most certainly do that. I don't see why not, this is how games were since the 70's.

Is it just the key words that determine the outcome?  If I typed, "I will kill myself!" will the scene still play out the same?

I'm sure someone out there has created or is able to create a script that can parse strings to look for important words.  I don't think it would be easy to create through events.

yeah i looked into the events, it might as well be a script.

thats a good question. of course terms like kill myself or will not would also be different,

the whole point of the system is "roleplaying". not to follow a main story, but for the player to forge his/her own story

Eventhough I can not answer your question but your gimmic reminds me of FF2 that asks player to use a correct "key word" to interact with NPCs to progress futher the main story.

The question is if you want to allow input freedom or not. If you want the player to be able to type in any answer, then the answer is that you'll need scripts - several scripts and a lot of work to be precise.

You'll need a keyboard input script to enable the full keyboard, because by default only very few keys are checked by RM

You'll need a script to check the answers and compare them to preselected lists - theoretically this could be done by evented conditional branches, but it would be too much work if you want free answers.

If you're willing to work with predefined answers, you can do this by eventing alone with the show choice command. If you want some choices hidden to be revealed only later, you can use one of the choice option/condition scripts for that.

This is a lot less work, but it will still require you to work carefully when designing your conversations - and it does not have the freedom of typing in anything you want.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
