Aside from giving proper credit for all the free to use resources offered, as well as any other you may have gotten, what would be an appropriate way to credit yourself?

Do you credit yourself for constructing the damage formulas and building the battle mechanics? Do you credit yourself for the characters/backgrounds/sounds?

Is there anything else that should be included with the game, like a text file about usage or anything? I'm just looking to get all the practice with this stuff I can get. Do I need to specify how the game can be used in a separate read me file?

Well, you are the Game Designer and Developer, so those should be what you should give yourself credit for, plus credit for any original content you created (music, graphics, etc.).  If working with a team, you're also the Director (or Creative Director) and Producer.  Hope that helps a bit.

Do the credits as normal and then at the end write in big bold letters:

"Special thanks to ME. Yes ME. I am wonderful. I have created this. I am love incarnate. Tenderly I rub your heartstrings. Behold, mortal. You have witnessed God's eye. Now bow your head and lay your insect's legs on the ground lest my gaze burn your soul into nothing, child."

Something like that.

If you did multiple things such as story, production and direction, etc, then it may be best to simply write "Created by [suchnsuch]"

I was going to say something along the lines of this. I'm usually snide and sarcastic when crediting myself-- "And EraYachi for actually creating the game using all of these resources, including a whompload of original artwork, but no one's reading this part of the credits anyway, so here's a watermelon:"

I think in my next game I will credit myself as 'Coffee Warmer'.

Mmm coffee.

Or push the boat out and put yourself under the most redundant sounding job ever like... "Event Counter," "Single pixel recolourist," or even "Default Button Mapping Checker"

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
