Congrats for your release :)

If you don't mind me asking, without having played the game, why do you mix those obviously awesome quality artwork, UI elements and the like with RTP tilesets?

That always strikes me as really weird, I know for a non Maker user this is probably no issue, but for me that really clashes.

So many awesome Macktiles out there, and edits of them, all with "to be used for commercial games" terms of use, you just like the RTP that much?

No real critcism, more of a personal taste btw, just curious.

Having full tilesets designed for the game easily costs thousands of euros, so I utilized various packs you can buy and commissioned some additional tiles.

Yeah I know, not talking about full custom, just well, not RTP.

I love the menu!

You should fix the water in the last screenshot. Those are underwater cliff tiles. o.o

If I only had a proper team to make this game less garbage (I mean stuff like mappers, scripters etc that are not commissioned.)

I didn't realize how bad this game was even though I play tested it.

I can fix the performance problem once that DLL file is ready but ugh (some people insist buying it without checking the requirements due it looks like 2D game.)

That's why this site exists, to find a proper team and get feedback on your games. If you think your game is garbage you can always keep updating it for a long as it takes.

It's mostly related to performance.

Still in my defense, it was the community who voted the game to be sold. Problem is that Steam Greenlight doesn't let down vote things and current barrier of approval is too low. They should seriously rethink the system. I also guess that the Valve should play the games a bit before agreeing to sell them, a lot of us Steam Greenlight submitters have no skills to pull off our game ideas properly.

I'm kind of confused.... If you think badly of the game, why did you go commercial right away instead of making sure everything was as "perfect" as can be...? o.o

If the bad performance is caused by the high resolution, i fear there isn't much you can do currently aside from removing all tiles and fully rely on parallaxed maps.

If it's because of parallel events or badly written scripts, i'm sure there are a lot of people that would be willing to help.

I plan to use profits made of this game to make it up to those who bought it.

Essentially this means not to abandon the project but finish certain things like shopping and crafting menus. Get that voice acting in which is supposedly finished at somepoint.

I will also release a demo. It isn't in me to purposely deceive those who give me money and it lets them to test out the performance.

If your shopping and crafting menus are not finished (as your last post seems to say) why did you release it unfinished?  No one was forcing you.  Steam didn't force you.  It is your job as a developer to know when it is ready to release, and saying that it's Steam's fault that you lack the skills is one of the most original excuses I have seen.   And how can you possibly "make it up" to people who have bought an unfinished game?  They will have already played it and, presumably, had a less than perfect experience doing so.

That's way easier said than done. Most of the DLc's are not a full set (as in there is a lot missing and it really restricts your tiles), so going non-RTP would easily cost $10000+ to get a full set made. Even the DS+ pack is pretty restrictive unless you wish to go all DS sprites (which again requires more comissioning).

Personally, I see nothing wrong with the RTP, its all in how it is used.

Now onto ksjp17's point, I do wonder about unfinished parts of the game. Did you consider releasing it as early access?

Shopping and crafting works.

Scripter didn't manage to finish on time and the release date was already set. It's just visual polish.

Isn't the nice thing about being indie is that you can fix/update your game while AAA games just leave them bad? And steam deserves as much blame as it gets and then some. 132 pages of rpg games is just bs.

A developer is always going to have problems with their games, no such thing as a perfect game. Just live and learn.

Despite it wasn't smoothest indie launch on Steam, it still sells very very well.

Those who bought my game have been surprisingly polite so far and up vote my fixes.

My game is not bad, I just take negative reviews too personally.

Those reviews are brutal, but it's the same for most rpg maker games.

That is still not what I ment tho.

For example that last screenshot, a forest map done with a Mack style tileset (which is free to use for commercial games) > RTP (imo). So are RPG Maker XP based tilesets, which are also ok for commercial games, if you bought XP.

There are many free non RTP tilesets to use, with a big variety which just simply look better than the RTP.

What exactly does "sells very well" mean btw?

If you're allowed to give rough figures that is.

Always wondered how many copies you can expect to sell, if you have a somewhat visually pleasing game, you know, where you actually have to spend a few bucks to get the art done.

People who give negative reviews like "sux." aren't really interested in helping anyone anyways, has nothing to do with you.

Will give it a try when I have time, since the UI elements really interest me, and I wanna see what you've come up with.

Eh, I'll disagree on that, as many of them don't mix well, as then it is obvious you had two different artists on the tiles, and appropriate looking sprites as well (for instance XP tiles really should have XP sprites, DS tiles need DS sprites, and so on). But, to each their own.

About the lag issue...have you considered the Effectius script? Its supposed to help reduce lag quite a bit. Might help out with those complaining about the low fps. Or, how about Theo's Insane Anti Lag script? I think he wrote it with the high res dll in mind. All he charges to use it is a free copy of the game.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
