I been playing SMT 4 this past week and a few things stood out to me as interesting things I could play with, one of which was that the game used no DEF or MDF stat. I thought of ways I could design a system of doing away with said stat as well. That way I can still keep the threat of older enemies as well as making skill-sets, resistances, states and buffs all the more useful rather than level difference and DEF based builds.
I think lower numbers/ parameters would work as well. Plus this way you can't really rely on a single character to soak up damage and heal it off like nothing having a high DEF stat nor having an "invincible" tank. This way I can focus more making some of the other stats and skills more interesting to compensate for no DEF stat. I thought about the possibility of using PDF and MDF rates of percentage for armours as well as attribute resists (Bash, Stab, Cut, Fire, Ice, etc).
What do you think of this idea and anything you might add or change?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
