Hello everyone. My team and I have been working on a small project for a while, and we're now looking for early feedback.
The Dread Islands is a post-apocalyptic / survival / open world RPG, inspired by both old JRPS as well as modern, western ones. It is set in a modern age, and zombies and mutated creatures are present, with a small touch of supernatural. But the worst enemy to humans, though, is without a doubt... humans. It's one of the themes that we have for the game; how humans turn selfish in bad situations. Corruption, betrayal.. the likes. The second aspect is practicality vs. morality. The player will have to make the tough calls in some situations. Sometimes, killing a person might be morally the wrong thing to do, but the best thing to do in order to increase odds of survival. I'm not gonna say too much to not spoil the plot, though.
What features does it have?
Do you have some screenshots?
Yes. I'm having trouble uploading them though. See attached files (hopefully it works)
Where can I download the demo?
Right here :

What kind of feedback do you need?
I'll be honest. This early in developement, pretty much anything. Mostly, I'm looking for advices about the game in general, does it look like it has potential? Do you feel like it's polished? Do you like the story, or is it bad? What about the characters? Any tips on how to make it better?
Of course, I'd be happy if you just found out bugs too.
Who are you guys?
We're a small team. We've had people jump in temporarily and then leave, but so far the team is this
Tony : The mapper, he made about 50-60% of the maps in the game.
Undeadlife : He made a few sound effects and songs (he composed the title theme and the first boss battle music!)
Mymi : My girlfriend, who's testing the game and telling me whenever I have a really bad idea.
Nick : A teacher who'd like to become a game designer. He's a young 34 years old, he mostly writes sick dialogue - if you play through the whole of what we have right now, you'll probably notice a difference and you can tell "ok this is about the time where Nick joined!"
Psi : Our latest addition to the team, also writes some dialogue and helped design a few side-quests.
As for myself, I'm a former acrobat, but due to injury I now have to find another career and passion. I intend to start school in september in game design! So this game is an opportunity to learn on how to manage a team, coodinate everyone's efforts, as well as try to learn what makes a good videogame. And so far, it's like Mcdonalds, I'm lovin' it. And it's also making me fat.
Some people who have been previously part of the project have their name in a file called "credits" inside the game folder.
Final words?
Yes. I'd like you to consider that a lot of ressources are temporary. Like the faces. They don't match with the general texture. Also using some stuff from popular videogames, those are merely place holders!
Please note that there may be subjects inside that could offend some people.... So if you are easily offended, or if you're under 13, please don't play the game.
Other than that, thank you for taking the time to read & try the game, and I hope you have some fun with it.
