RPG Maker Forums

As I'm developing my game, I wrote code to have the escape key close out the game window as many gamers would expect that functionality. The thought, however, occurred to me that many players used to RPG Maker games may prefer the escape key's original functionality of doubling as a cancel and menu key. So on one side, you can please gamers not familiar with RPG Maker games and the escape key closes the game, but this may confuse RPG Maker veterans who expect it to bring up a menu or cancel out and instead the game window just terminates. On the other side, you may have gamers who get confused as to why the escape key isn't closing out the game window, especially in full screen yet to RPG Maker veterans it does exactly as expected. I'm debating now with myself on how I want to approach this.

Thoughts? What would you expect an escape key to do in a game you are playing? How would you approach this for your own games?

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
