The generator needs more parts.

First off, I do like the generator.  It's way way better than VXAce.

I don't like the color choices though, I can't make dark colored hair for instance.

I know I can go in and manually edit the gradients file, but man, that's pretty rough though, as I'll have to do that multiple times for the project I am working on.

Also, the clothes and accessories are pretty bare.

I did purchase many many DLC packs for VX Ace, and I'd happily pay for as many parts for the generator as you can think of.

In fact, if you could somehow convert the sprites for the Future Works, Fantasy Hero and Dark Fantasy hero DLC packs to have side view battle sprites I'd be super happy and willing to pay for the whole packs again.

Heck, Let's just say if anyone is willing to take on a project of converting the clothes, accessories, hair, etc from those three DLC/premium packs to have everything ready for MV side view battle system,  I'd be willing to pay them $20-40 USD per pack.

I'm sorta ranting/raging, but after waiting for this engine and it's character generator I'm left disappointed in it's limitations.

You're not the only one.

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy we even have a generator that handles facesets, sprites, and side-view battlers like this one, it's just that I had hoped it would feature a lot more diversity in face styles, clothes, hair styles, and accessories. I mean, some of the exclusivity of the generator parts (like being exclusive to male characters and female characters) left me scratching my head.

It's a good thing we can copy the male parts (at least, some of them) over to the female side, and vice-versa.

PS.

Why is there no makeup option? You'd think that would be a given. XD

True, there are limitations.

However, put Generator in the search box for the MV resources forum and you will already find a good number of additions for it.  This does help make it more versatile.

There are even a couple of new gradient.png files for altering the colours and shades available.

Honestly, the generator only feels a bit weak because of the lack of base-faces, which is a consequence of how the face is composited.

People are making more generator parts in the resource part of the forum.

Here, here, and especially here

While I find the generator and the included resources to be adequate, the above statement probably played a major role in the decision of how much to include.

The community will add a limitless supply of addition resources. They may also be holding back resources for future DLC packs.

I will admit though, having base resources right out of the box creates less worry about giving proper credit.

Also, without the pre-order DLC included, the base resources are fairly barebones.

Do you think that we can maybe get the character packs from VX ACE converted to MV with added side view battlers?  I want rpgmakerweb to take my money.

The facial hair selection is horrid... Absolutely horrid...  I've yet to add any additional part from here because of the manual naming conventions, and the strict adherence to numbering...  It's a bit of a PITA, and I ain't got time to be messing with it (ok, fine... I'm lazy...)... Plus some of the parts I've seen added really don;t appeal to me. I'm hoping for a more official pack that just installs itself, has great diversity & variety, and I can keep on trucking.

It's lacking certain clothes (yukata and furisode for example).

For hair color, someone made a "natural color" gradient that you can swap in and out. It would be nice if we could simply add extra colors, but oh well.

That is likely impossible since it would require having someone literately redraw everything.

I've started following Mon's resources prior the moment I saw it after registering in this site. lol

But, yeah. For someone who is starting, even a more diverse selection of face templates would have helped. Like, why aren't there options for making child characters or overweight characters?

I'm thinking of making add-ons to the generator myself, just have to get used to the style by which the RTP ones are made before I jumped into the bandwagon.

I remember seeing one person a little while ago not liking that you're only able to make teen or adult characters in the editor.  Some options for children and maybe even animals would be pretty neat.  Especially since a lot of RPG protagonists tend to be kids.

Overweight/child characters would render nearly all assets useless, and they'd have to be redrawn. It would double/triple the amount of work. I agree it would be nice, but it's clear why they didn't do it.

Just the pixel art, maybe, and that's only if they can't just resize the walking sprite.  They would just have to make the side view sprites.

Adding new parts to the generator also isn't very easy or intuitive. It isn't as simple as just dragging and dropping stuff into folders, or even like importing through a resource manager. That's the biggest problem: even if there was official "RMMV Generator add-on packs," you often end up having to "replace stuff" rather than "add stuff."

I wonder if it can be patched to use two alpha numeric characters instead of just digits so there could be much more room to add resources with less likely overwriting.

If I could make a suggestion on how RPGMV does this, is that I'd suggest, literately, they have a generator_addon folder and that "fuses" the contents of the _addon folder with the main folder in the generator.

Then for each "part" menu (note the disk access time required to cycle through everything in the generator) do the same thing that the Tileset's do, which allows mix-and-matching variations from addons.

I'm hoping some of the awesome people here get together and make a really really cool mega pack that has lots and lots of parts and agrees to share credit and usage licenses.

I'm also hoping some premium DLC packs with included side view battlers and weapons and things comes out soon.  I still want rpgmakerweb to take mah monies.

I am working on a base for child sprites.

here

Perhaps folks could collaborate and we could make a layered file to generate them.

I find child sprites in battles (and the need for battlers) a rare kind of need, don't you?

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
